Spurs can trouble Real but hosts to come out on top

Champions League Tips

Tuesday 17th October 2017 Kickoff:1945hrs Real Madrid v Tottenham Football – Europe – Champions League Something has to give in the Spanish capital on Tuesday as both Real Madrid and Tottenham come into the Group H clash with 100% records from their first two Champions League games. This section was viewed as a group of death when the draw was made but these two have stolen a march on Borussia Dortmund in the early part of the campaign having both defeated the Bundesliga leaders already. There’s no doubt the current champions are favoured to come out on top but Tottenham will at least be in confident mood as they approach this daunting test of their credentials.

Having achieved so much last season in Spain and in Europe, it was probably to be expected that Real would have a hangover coming into the new season. Making history by becoming the first team to win the Champions League in successive years as well as becoming champions of Spain for the first time in four seasons was up there with Real’s best ever seasons – but they have not had everything their own way this season, domestically at least. Real find themselves in third spot in La Liga, five points behind leaders Barcelona. It’s unlikely that Zinedine Zidane will be panicking just yet with so much football to be played and he’ll be buoyed by how his team have started in the defence of their Champions League, even though there remains a lot of improvement to come. A routine win over APOEL to kick things off was followed by a more assured performance away to Dortmund in a game where they were at their efficient best. These two games against Tottenham will be another good measure of where Real are at currently.

Nobody could be sure of how Spurs would get on this season as they have to play all their home games at Wembley whilst awaiting a move to their new stadium. Domestically it has been a struggle as they have only just registered their first home league win of the campaign on Saturday with a narrow win over Bournemouth but having struggled so much at Wembley in last year’s Champions League, their first game in this section could barely have went any better. Spurs were clinical in their finishing against Dortmund to run out 3-1 winners despite being second best in a number of areas on the night. It was a complete turnaround from the previous season where they dominated games at times without getting their reward and to follow that up with an emphatic win in Cyprus – in a game they were expected to win – means they come into these games against the holders from a strong position. Of course, it would be no real surprise if they end up level on points with Dortmund after the next two fixtures but they will relish this tag as underdogs and have the most in form striker in Europe at this point in time in their ranks.

Real Madrid v Tottenham Betting Tips

One of the main disappointments approaching this game is the news that Gareth Bale will be absent and unable to face his old club where he made his name and earned his move to Real Madrid. It takes something of the game but they are fixtures to look forward to featuring two teams with very different backgrounds in the competition. Real are the experienced outfit full of players at the very top of their game whilst Spurs are only emerging into this arena and are learning as they go – both players and coaching staff.

Real have not been as free scoring as we have came to expect but they have already scored six goals in their two games in the Champions League. Spurs appear to be better suited playing away from home this season and will fancy their chances of causing their hosts problems, particularly Harry Kane. I think Real will have too much in the end, especially at home, but they will be test. Spurs have scored 80% of their goals away from home this season whereas Real have conceded over half their goals at home. Both teams to score and Real Madrid looks the way to go as a result.
