Preview: We still await the first error from Real Madrid since La Liga resumed in mid-June, assuming control of this season’s title race as a result of winning all five of their matches thus far. What hope is there about Getafe becoming the first side since lockdown ended to take points from Zidane’s men?

Real Madrid Preview – No complacency on show so far from Zidane’s men?

At the recent rate Barcelona are dropping points, Real Madrid (1st – W21 D8 L3), who are now two points in the clear atop La Liga, may not even need to win all of their remaining matches should their nearest rivals continue to throw them favours. Not that manager Zinedine Zidane, nor his team, are taking anything for granted. Sunday’s 1-0 win at Espanyol maintaining their 100% record (W5) since returning to action last month.

In the form they are in, and with a kind schedule to come, it does seem unimaginable that Real should surrender the lead now. This fixture has the potential to throw a spanner in the works, facing a side in top-four contention. Getafe were simply no match in the reverse fixture, though, comprehensively beaten 3-0 in January. An 11th win in 12 previous league meetings for Los Blancos, who have won each of the last ten as hosts.

Getafe are far from prolific either. Real, meanwhile, have been impressively resolute since the restart, conceding only twice in 450 minutes, while nobody boasts superior defensive numbers across the whole season. More than half (12) of Real Madrid’s 21 La Liga victories this season were without conceding, which includes three out of five since the resumption as well as four of their last five wins when at home.

Getafe Preview – Can Champions League-chasers spring a surprise?

Finally, at the fifth time of trying, Getafe (5th – W14 D10 L8) are off the mark after registering a 2-1 home win over Real Sociedad on Monday to secure their first three points since La Liga got back underway in the middle of June. An important result, not merely for it coming against a direct rival for European qualification but because it enabled them to close the gap on Sevilla in fourth to two points. A gap that will likely have grown prior to kick-off.

Depending on how Sevilla fared in Leganes on Tuesday, Getafe will know the significance of winning or losing on Thursday. History tells us it will likely be the latter, having lost their past ten encounters with Real Madrid away from home. Ominously, the last nine were by a margin of two clear goals – though a 2-0 scoreline last season did represent their first failure to score in this fixture in five seasons.

Unfortunately, scoring hasn’t come naturally to Jose Bordalas’ team of late, with Monday’s win against Sociedad the first time more than one goal was netted in nine league games, a period in which they managed only two wins (W2 D4 L3). Yet they’ve conceded more than one goal themselves just once since the restart (in their opening fixture in Granada), so will feel they have the necessary tools to keep the hosts at bay.

Real Madrid Vs Getafe Betting Advice

Top meets fifth at Alfredo di Stefano. Title pacesetters versus top-four contender. It promises to be a riveting watch for those fortunate to be able to, with Real Madrid searching for their sixth straight win at the expense of a Getafe side who cannot really afford to contemplate losing or risk falling even further behind fourth place. It is, however, a fixture dominated by Real, who have the previous ten editions at home.

Real Madrid Vs Getafe – Key Facts

  • La Liga leaders Real Madrid, boasting a two point cushion over Barcelona, are still to drop a point after recording five successive victories since returning to action.
  • It took Getafe until their fifth fixture of the restart to register their first win meanwhile, claiming three out of twelve points (D3 L1) prior to Monday’s win over Real Sociedad.
  • A win for Real Madrid would extend their imperious head-to-head record against Getafe, with the latter without a win in their twelve previous encounters (D1 L1

Success for both teams this season has largely come about through solid defensive foundations, and so any success here, for either side, will likely be for the same reason. Only three teams have let in fewer goals this season than Getafe. Real Madrid have conceded the fewest meanwhile, and only two since the restart, and are backed to grind out another favourable outcome.
