Real Salt Lake – Goals at both ends of the pitch the norm?

Last time out, Real Salt Lake would endure a fruitless afternoon trying to convert a dominant performance – in particular in attacking areas – into a much-needed win, settling for a share of the spoils in their 1-1 stalemate with Houston Dynamo. Twenty-one shots on the opposing goal, nine of which found the target, resulted in just the one goal – that from the foot of defender Justen Glad following a set-play move.

That made it one win in seven for the Claret and Cobalt, who have steadily slipped down the Western Conference rankings following a bright start. Putting the ball in the net isn’t necessarily a problem, having done so in eight of nine MLS matches, but keeping out their opponents certainly has been with only one clean sheet all season long. Unsurprisingly, both teams scoring has proven a regular occurrence.

Meanwhile, here at Rio Tinto Stadium in Utah, RSL have toiled for pretty much the entirety of the campaign. The recent draw with Houston Dynamo made it two wins from five home games so far, and only one – 3-1 vs Vancouver – in the last five (D2 L2). Furthermore, the last three have seen them open the scoring inside the opening half but subsequently squander said lead on two separate occasions.

2-2 Correct Score

Los Angeles FC – Former champs seeking maiden away win?

For the fifth time this season, Los Angeles FC were left to rue a seemingly inherent inability to retain a lead in their recent encounter away to Sporting Kansas City at Children’s Mercy Park. Despite seizing control of proceedings through a rare source in full-back Kim Moon-hwan, the 25-year-old South Korean’s maiden strike of this MLS season, the guests departed empty handed after a 2-1 loss.

Bob Bradley’s side have now dropped a total of 12 points from winning positions since the season got underway in April. LAFC quickly set about their business, accruing five points from their first three games. However, things unravelled thereafter for the 2019 Supporter’s Shield champions, accumulating a fairly meagre seven points across seven subsequent fixtures. Winning just two of the last nine (D3 L4).

Their first away win is still loading, meanwhile, losing the last three away encounters on the bounce – versus LS Galaxy, Seattle Sounders and Sporting KC – since a 1-1 draw against Houston Dynamo at the beginning of May. All three said defeats saw them concede on precisely two occasions, while they are still to send the opposing net rippling more than once in an away outing thus far.

Real Salt Lake Vs Los Angeles FC Betting Advice

Recent meetings would indicate a first away win of this MLS season is incoming for Los Angeles who emerged victorious on three of four league visits to Real Salt Lake, including a 3-1 success in the most of them, in October 2020. In fact, LAFC have tended to show a ruthless streak in this particular fixture, scoring two or more – and 2.5 on average – across their four visits to Rio Tinto Stadium in MLS.

Real Salt Lake Vs Los Angeles FC – Key Facts:

  • Los Angeles will feel they hold the upper hand following wins in three of their four MLS visits to Real Salt Lake, scoring 2+ goals in each of these victories.
  • However, LAFC are still to register their first away win of this MLS season and are currently on a three-game losing streak on the road.
  • Real Salt Lake haven’t fared much better at home thus far (W2 D3 L1). Five out of six RSL home games featured both teams scoring, with three seeing Over 2.5 Goals.

The strong away record in this fixture of Los Angeles bodes well for goals then, as Real Salt Lake have only failed to score in one league fixture all season. Both Teams to Score is plenty short at 4/7 but holds solid claims with both these teams ranking highly for this bet (RSL 89% BTTS, LAFC 70%). Although, with our guests conceding twice in their past three away matches, we can probably push the boat out and expect more.
