From being a prominent outsider in the competition’s outright betting to being considered favourites to lift the trophy. At their Anoeta Stadium meanwhile, Sociedad have won eight of thirteen encounters in league and cup (W8 D2 L3) and are currently enjoying a four-match winning run in San Sebastian.
Mirandes Preview – Segunda outfit capable of further surprises?
Perhaps in another round, most rounds in fact, a team from Segunda Division knocking out its third consecutive La Liga outfit would have garnered more attention. Instead, Mirandes adding Villarreal to a list of scalps that already included Celta Viga and Sevilla felt as though it went largely unheralded. So much that bookmakers still consider them the least threatening of the remaining four competitors, with current quotes of 20/1 with BetFred about them lifting the trophy significantly bigger than the rest.
Being dismissed before a ball has even been kicked has worked out rather well for them so far. Mirandes’ upset victories were all on home soil, which is where much of their best work this season has been produced.
