Real Valladolid Preview – Albivioletas closing in on guaranteed safety?

A goal in the early moments of both halves was enough to secure Valladolid (14th – W7 D11 L10) all three points away to Leganes on Saturday, withstanding some late pressure as they held out for an invaluable 2-1 success that lifted them seven points clear of the La Liga relegation zone. A seventh win of the season, with four coming on the road, meaning more victories were accrued away from their Estadio Jose Zorrilla in 2019/20.

Sergio Gonzalez’s side will hope to rectify a poor home return when they welcome one of the league’s worst travellers on Wednesday. Valladolid were held to a goalless draw in the reverse fixture but will instead hope to replicate last season’s 2-1 home victory, when an inspired display after half-time, scoring twice without reply, atoned for falling behind early doors.

Unfortunately, wins at their residence in Castille and Leon have come at a premium so far, registering all three against sides currently residing in the bottom five of the La Liga table. A group Celta Vigo conveniently fall into, which should bode well for another strong showing from the Albivioletas, who are only a couple more wins from guaranteeing survival for a second successive term.

Celta Vigo Preview – Dire away record dampens any appeal?

Fending off relegation is once again the pinnacle of Celta Vigo‘s (17th – W5 D11 L12) ambitions. Much like 2018/19, when for much of the campaign their top-flight status seemed to hang in the balance, another herculean effort is needed if this club are to extend their La Liga tenure into a ninth successive term. On that basis, last week’s performance was of great concern.

Producing a lacklustre display on Friday, it wasn’t until the final minutes of the contest that Celta Vigo realised even a precious point had slipped through their grasp. A 1-0 defeat coming courtesy of a goal conceded deep into time added on of the second half. Ultimately, though, it was a result their performance merited in what was another alarming effort from an attack heavily reliant on Iago Aspas.

A big improvement is needed therefore. Expecting just that feels speculative, though, with no goal scored in each of the last three league games. Granted they were unbeaten in five (W2 D3) prior to facing Villarreal, however this is a side which has fared poorly on the road all season, winning only once in 14 outings (W1 D6 L7) whilst scoring only 12 times.

Real Valladolid Vs Celta Vigo Betting Advice

If these teams stay true to their form, Real Valladolid should come out on top. The hosts have consistently beaten the sides below them in the table this season. Meanwhile, Celta Vigo tend to only thrive on their travels when the odds are against them, earning draws with several members of the top-six only to come unstuck away to a host of sides in mid-table or worse.

Real Valladolid Vs Celta Vigo – Key Facts

  • Contrasting outcomes as both teams resumed La Liga commitments over the weekend. Valladolid clinching a 2-1 win at Leganes while elsewhere, Celta Vigo were beaten at home by Villarreal.
  • Five of the last six league games for Valladolid featured both teams scoring. Conversely, it is now four straight games without both teams scoring for Celta Vigo.
  • Stalemate at Balaidos when these sides met in November, a contest which finished 0-0. Valladolid would prevail during last season’s home encounter however, winning 2-1.

Those prepared to plump for goals could be rewarded should Valladolid maintain a trend that has seen five of their previous six La Liga games return both teams to score. Much could depend on Celta Vigo obliging, which is by no means assured – the visitors averaging less than one goal-per-game on their travels, failing to net at all on six occasions.
