Reims Preview – Can Reims upset title challengers and extend their unbeaten run to five games?
Nine points clear of the relegation zone and a further point adrift of the European spots means that Reims are smack back in mid-table as their current position of 12th would suggest. One of the lesser lights in Ligue 1 they continue to punch above their weight and head coach David Guion will be wondering a bit ‘what if’ after recent results. Three straight draws (two of which at home) have spelled the end for their hopes of challenging for a top five spot which would bring with it European football next season.
Reims did get back to winning ways (ending a run of six games without victory) when beating Nantes 2-1 on their travels.
Lyon Preview – Will Lyon get the victory that would take them joint top of the table ahead of the weekend games?
It’s the closest title race in all five of the top leagues and Lyon are very much involved in it. Seven points separate the top four and Lyon – who are third at the moment – can go level on points with current leaders Lille. Any win would put them above that rival on account of goals scored. Considering Rudi Garcia is known to be leaving at the end of the season it’s been a dramatic turn around for the club.
Having lost at home to Montpellier in the middle of last month Lyon have since taken 10 points from their last four games, proving that their mentality may be different compared to previous years.

This group of players did show their class last season by reaching the semi-final of the Champions League but it’s their consistency this time around that has been the biggest surprise. With PSG coming up next we are entering a really crucial period of the campaign for Garcia and his players and if they are still in the conversation after these next couple of matches then you’d expect them to be in the race for the duration.
Lyon’s front three of Memphis Depay, Tino Kadawere and Karl Toko Ekambi have combined for 37 goals in the league. A formidable trio.
