I’m expecting a much tighter encounter between Republic of Ireland and Wales this time around than the earlier corresponding fixture – read on for our betting tips for this match.
Republic of Ireland were on the end of a heavy 4-1 loss away at Wales in their opening fixture in Group 4 of League B but they returned to their Aviva Stadium in Dublin to secure what could turn out to be a very valuable points against group leaders, Denmark in a 0-0 draw.
The Aviva Stadium is the venue again for tonight’s clash with Wales as the hosts look to get something from this encounter to stay in touch with Denmark and Wales and keep the relegation trap-door at bay.
Although Republic of Ireland have managed just one win from their last eight matches overall, they’ve gained a few notable results at home which include wins over Uruguay and USA as well as holding Austria and Denmark to 1-1 and 0-0 draws respectively.
Wales are just one point behind Denmark as they make their way over to Dublin for this important Group 4 fixture, and all three points against the Irish tonight would see Ryan Giggs’s side move top of the group.
However, although they got their Nations League campaign off to a cracking start with their emphatic 4-1 home win over tonight’s opponents, Republic of Ireland, they’ve since fallen to back-to-back defeats to Denmark 2-0 away and a 4-1 thrashing at home to Spain in a recent international friendly.
The Welsh have also won just three of their last 10 on their travels, a sequence that includes four stalemates and considering they’ve lost their last two matches on the trot, I daresay a draw in Dublin tonight wouldn’t be the worst result for Gigg’s side.
This should therefore be a much tighter contest here and my betting tips suggest backing the draw at half-time in this one.
