Stephen Kenny’s Republic of Ireland entertain Markku Kanerva’s Finland at the Aviva Stadium this Sunday in a UEFA Nations League game. The Irish left it late to rescue a point in Bulgaria in their opening match of the tournament, but can they take all three points in Dublin at the weekend? Check out our betting preview below for the best odds and predictions.

Republic of Ireland Preview – Boys in Green to make home advantage count?

Stephen Kenny’s first game in charge of Republic of Ireland ended in a draw last Thursday. Ireland looked down and out when Bozhidar Kraev gave Bulgaria a second-half lead at the Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia. However, the Boys in Green were not to be denied, and new Celtic man Shane Duffy levelled in the 93rd minute to rescue a point.

The popular Mick McCarthy – who opted to leave the Ireland managerial role earlier in the year – did a fine job with this squad of players. It is now up to Kenny to keep moving the nation forward. Next month, Ireland take on Slovakia in a huge UEFA Euro 2021 play-off gaame. Before then, though, the Irish will want to see off Finland in the Nations League.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score

Wales, who won 1-0 in Finland last Thursday, are fancied to win the group, but Ireland will be hoping to push Ryan Giggs’ men all the way. The old foes square off at the Aviva in October. Can Ireland make it four points from a possible six before that showdown in Dublin?

Finland Preview – Can the Finns respond in the Irish capital?

Finland have been in good form over the past couple of years. Before Thursday’s defeat to Wales, the Finns had won six of eight fixtures. However, they were poor against the Welsh, with Kieffer Moore’s goal giving the away team a 1-0 victory at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki.

Finland will be looking to build on their very successful UEFA Euro 2021 qualifying campaign. Next summer’s Euros will be the first major tournament for the Eagle-owls. They finished runners-up to Italy, who won ten out of ten. Finland picked up six wins from ten to finish on an impressive 18 points.

Finland were disappointing in their opening Nations League matchup, and Markku Kanerva’s will be keen to make amends in Dublin this Sunday. The Finns are available at 15/4 to get the win.

Republic of Ireland vs Finland Betting Advice

This will be the first meeting between the two nations since a friendly fixture in Helsinki back in 2002. The Irish were far too strong in that one, with Robbie Keane, Colin Healy and Graham Barrett on the scoresheet in a 3-0 away victory. The last two have ended in 3-0 wins for Ireland, while Finland have never beaten the Republic.

Key Facts – Republic of Ireland vs Finland Betting Tip

  • Ireland have won the last two meetings by a 3-0 scoreline
  • The Irish have won three and drawn two of the five previous meetings
  • The Republic have suffered just one home defeat since November 2017

Finland have improved drastically since the last meeting between the pair, but Ireland will back themselves to get the points in an empty Aviva at the weekend. The Boys in Green are a tough nut to crack on their own patch, so take a punt on the home win at 4/5.
