Both Rob Cross and Nathan Aspinall will have been happy enough with their opening forays into the 2020 Premier League Darts last week. Cross picked up a point in a draw, while Apsinal powered his way to a convincing win over one of the visiting challengers.

Aspinall makes a positive start in Premier League

Nathan Aspinall made his Premier League darts debut last week in Aberdeen. He looked right at home as he collected a 7-3 win over challenger John Henderson. There will be much stiffer challenges ahead of course for the Asp.

Like in this week’s round of matches in Nottingham. Aspinall did collect the highest checkout as well last week, posting a 170 finish in his match. Even though this is his debut in the competition, he does look capable of challenging the big guns.

Aspinall has made the semifinals in his two PDC World Championship main draw appearances and he recently made the final four of the Masters as well. His stock is rising all of the time. There have been a few duels between Aspinall and Cross before.

They met twice last year, Aspinall beating Cross in the final of the UK Open and then again in the quarters of the US Darts Masters. That leaves Cross at W3 L2 overall in the head to head with Aspinall.

Can Cross build on his opening point?

Last year’s losing Premier League finalist Rob Cross came up with a point in his opener for this campaign. He was up against Gerwyn Price and had to settle for a share of the spoils, despite posting a three-dart average of 100 to the 95 of his opponent.

In his couple of seasons so far in the Premier League, Cross has looked very comfortable with the format, which doesn’t suit all players. He was a losing semi-finalist on his 2018 debut and then runner up last year.

So he will have his claims here. But he has just lost his way in recent battles with Aspinall, which makes this a fascinating contest. To be fair as well, the form of Cross so far in 2020 hasn’t been there.

The former World Champion had a disappointing second-round exit at the World Championships in December and then was a first-round loser at the recent Masters.

Then again, he had a poor start to 2019 and then powered into life to reach four televised finals and end the year as the second-ranked player in the world. This should be a fascinating contest in Nottingham.

Rob Cross vs Nathan Aspinall Betting Advice

Such a tough game to call. Aspinall is on the up and up in the game and made light work of his challenger opponent last week. Despite the positives that the Asp always brings to the table, the value looks to be on Cross here.

Key Facts – Rob Cross vs Nathan Aspinall Betting Tip

  • Rob Cross earned a draw against Gerwyn Price last week
  • Rob Cross leads the head to head 3-2
  • Nathan Aspinall is in his debut Premier League season

Cross is such a tougher player in the Premier League and even though he didn’t win last week, his three-dart average on the night was only second to that of Michael van Gerwen. He generally brings consistency and can deliver a victory. Cross to win.
