Roma Prediction

Win or lose, Roma are fast becoming the entertainers on the European stage as five of their six matches in Group G resulted over the 2.5 goals mark as they finished runners-up and three points behind group winners, Real Madrid to progress to these knockout rounds of the competition.

On the domestic front in Serie A, Roma sit in 6th place and possess the joint highest number of goals (28) at home with Napoli in the Italian top flight, but have also conceded the most out of all the teams situated in the top half of Serie A with 17 goals against.

Roma have been in blistering form at home in recent weeks as they’ve collected four wins from their last five matches in all competitions at the Stadio Olimpico with league wins over Genoa 3-2, Sassuolo 3-1 and Torino 3-2 along with a Coppa Italia 4-0 rout of Virtus Entella, but the least said about the Coppa Italia the better where Roma are concerned!

The hosts suffered a humiliating 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Fiorentina at the end of January, but overall form on home turf have seen Roma lose just twice in their last 15 matches. Forwards El Shaarawy (8 goals) and Dzeko (5 goals) look the main threats for the hosts.

Key-Facts – Roma v Porto

  • Roma have lost just 2 of their last 15 matches at home in all competitions
  • 5 of Roma’s last 6 home matches have resulted in over 2.5 goals
  • Porto’s last 2 away matches in the group stages went over 2.5 goals

Porto Prediction

Porto have been held to two frustrating stalemates away from home in recent matches in the Portuguese Primeira Liga as they’ve been held to 0-0 and 1-1 draws by Vitoria Guimaraes and Moreirense respectively in consecutive away matches in the domestic top flight.

However, with the visitors missing two key forwards in the shape of Marega (7 goals) and Aboubakar (4 goals), I daresay Porto would bite the hand off anyone who offered them a draw at the Stadio Olimpico in this first leg.

Both Marega and Aboubakar are ruled out for this first leg through injury, but the visitors still possess dangerous forwards Brahimi (7 goals) and Tiquinho Soares (9 goals) up front, and they could prove to be a handful for Roma’s defence which at times can be quite accommodating.

Porto remained unbeaten away from home during the group stages, beating Lokomotiv Moscow 3-1 and Galatasaray 3-2, so more goals could follow here.

Betting Tips Verdict

The over 2.25 goals market looks appealing here.
