Roma – Mourinho’s men to falter in Rome?

The generous award of a penalty nine minutes into second half stoppage time spared Jose Mourinho the frustration of a fourth consecutive drawn encounter in Serie A. His Roma side eventually consigning Spezia to a 1-0 defeat at Stadio Alberto Picco. Tammy Abraham holding his nerve from the spot to convert his 12th league goal since his summer move from Chelsea – at least six more than any team-mate.

Mourinho’s men are now unbeaten in six league outings (W3 D3) but will wonder how they didn’t put last week’s contest to bed sooner, having been seconds from sharing the points in a game they created more than 4xG. They may not be as fortunate upon returning to their Stade Olimpico. The Giallorossi winning only one of the last five Serie A home matches (D3 L1) and lost here this season to Inter, Juve and Milan.

Key Stat: Roma, currently sixth in Serie A, haven’t managed to register a win at home to any side currently ranked fifth or better this season, drawing with leaders Napoli but conceding a combined nine goals in defeats to Inter Milan, Juventus and AC Milan.

Atalanta – Le Dea have revenge on their mind?

Last time out Atalanta shrugged off any notion that playing on a Thursday night in Europe can have a detrimental impact on what a team can produce the following weekend, hitting Sampdoria for four at Gewiss Stadium in a 4-0 rout. It marked a first win in six Serie A outings (D3 L2) for Giana Piero Gasperini’s side who are within three points of fourth-place Juventus and the final Champions League position.

Next up Rome, where La Dea were recently held to a goalless stalemate by Lazio. That result would extend Atalanta’s outstanding record away to the league’s best this season, complementing the 2-2 draw at Inter and 1-0 and 3-2 successes at Juventus and Napoli respectively. They would love to add Roma to that list. Especially after going down 4-1 to the Giallorossi in Bergamo when the sides met first time around.

Key Stat: Prior to this season getting underway, Atalanta hadn’t lost a league game to AS Roma in four years. La Dea’s seven-match unbeaten streak (W4 D3) against the Giallorossi was emphatically ended in December, however, beaten 4-1.

Roma Vs Atlanata Betting Advice

Sixth plays host to fifth in Serie A as Roma look to complete a first league double in nine seasons over opponents Atalanta. I cannot help but feel the value rests in the visitors, though. Prior to this season the record of Atalanta versus Roma was outstanding, winning four and drawing three since a 1-0 home loss in August 2017. While La Dea are unbeaten across seven previous visits to Rome for this fixture (W4 D3).

Roma Vs Atalanta – Key Facts:

  • In this season’s reverse fixture, Roma won 4-1 in Bergamo. Emphatically ending a seven-match winless sequence (D3 L4) in Serie A meetings against Atalanta.
  • Only one of the previous eight league meetings didn’t see both teams score, with four of the most recent to have taken place in Roma seeing both teams find the net.
  • Roma conceded at least twice in home defeats to three of the current top-four this season. Meanwhile Atalanta have scored 2+ on eight occasions away from home.

Throw into the mix how contrasting these team’s records this season are when facing the better sides and it all points to another strong showing from Atalanta. The latter have already won away to Juventus and Napoli while also securing creditable draws at Inter and Lazil. Conversely, Roma have drawn here with Napoli but were beaten while conceding at least twice to all of Inter, Juventus and Milan.
