Roma Preview – Italians to get back to winning ways in Europe?

Paulo Fonseca’s Roma have started their Europa League campaign with a win and a draw. On matchday one, the Italian giants picked up a narrow victory at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern. They were far from at their best against Young Boys, but second-half goals from Bruno Peres and Marash Kumbulla gave I Giallorossi a 2-1 win.

Roma were disappointing in their second Group A fixture last week, though, drawing with CSKA Sofia at the Stadio Olimpico. It was a pretty even game in the Italian capital, with neither side doing enough to win it.

Our betting prediction:
Roma to be winning at half time
4/5

On the whole, Roma have made a good start to the 2020-21 season. However, after dropping points at home in the Europa League last Thursday, the Serie A giants will be desperate for all three points on home turf in midweek.

CFR Cluj Preview – Romanian side to leave Rome with a narrow defeat?

CFR Cluj kicked off their Europa League group campaign with a solid 2-0 away win in Sofia a fortnight ago. After a tight first period, the Romanian side were quick out of the blocks after half time, with Mario Rondon netting in the 53rd-minute. A late Ciprian Deac penalty made sure of the points.

Like Roma, Cluj were also frustrated at home in their last Europa League match, drawing 1-1 with Young Boys. They battled hard for the opening goal in the 62nd-minute, but the Swiss side levelled seven minutes later to take a share of the spoils at the Dr. Constantin Radulescu Stadium.

Cluj, who are managed by the familiar face of Dan Petrescu these days, could be dark horses in Group A. After taking four points from their opening two, can the Liga I champions maintain their unbeaten start with a positive result in Rome this Thursday?

Roma vs CFR Cluj Betting Advice

Both teams have made strong starts to their domestic seasons. However, Romanian champions Cluj fell to their first league defeat last weekend, falling to a surprise 2-1 home reverse to Metan Medias.

Key Facts – Roma vs CFR Cluj Betting Tip

  • Roma are unbeaten in seven league and cup matches (four wins, three draws)
  • Both clubs have taken four points from a possible six in Europa League Group A
  • This will be the first meeting between the two clubs in ten seasons

In-form Roma will want to shrug off last Thursday’s goalless draw with a win in the Europa League in midweek. It could be close, so take a punt on the home side to win by one goal in the Olimpico, which is available at 13/5.

Since arriving from Chelsea, Pedro has made a good start to life in Rome, scoring three times for the Italian outfit already. The Spaniard, who netted in Roma’s 2-0 win over Fiorentina last time out, is priced at 6/1 to open the scoring on Thursday.
