Roma Preview – Can Roma improve on 7th place?
Roma only just squeezed a 7th place finish at the end of last season’s campaign in Serie A and it will be new manager, Jose Mourinho’s job to improve upon last season’s achievements in his tenure at the Rome club.
Roma finished last term with just two wins from their final eight games of last season which came in the form of wins against Crotone and Lazio, but four defeats within this period to Torino, Cagliari, Sampdoria and Inter Milan gave the hosts a nervy finish to the season.
Results at home throughout the season though were pretty steady as Roma suffered just two defeats all season, to AC Milan and Napoli, but 13 wins on home soil should give Roma confidence here, especially as they recorded a 2-0 win over Fiorentina in their last meeting at the Stadio Olimpico.
Fiorentina Preview – Can Fiorentina break Roma’s hold?
Fiorentina avoided being dragged down into the relegation battle towards the bottom of the Serie A table at the end of last season thanks to losing just one of their last seven matches overall, which was a 2-0 loss at home to Napoli, but also included wins against Verona and Lazio.
The visitors also picked up valuable points by way of draws with Juventus, Bologna, Cagliari and Crotone but they did find wins hard to come by in the latter stages of the season as they won just two of their final 11 matches overall.
Fiorentina also won just two of their last 12 away matches as well, so this upcoming trip to Roma could be a difficult one for the visitors.
