Roma Preview – Can Roma upset the odds?
5th placed Roma have been priced as underdogs for this upcoming clash against Inter Milan but this may seem a little unfair as the hosts have won six of their last nine matches in Serie A and are certainly no mugs as they look to nail down their present 5th place by at least avoiding defeat here.
With 12 points separating Roma from 4th placed Lazio and the Champions League spots, the hosts will have to make do with the Europa League and they’ll be keen to take a step towards automatic qualification for this competition with a result against Inter Milan on Sunday.
Roma’s overall home record stands at a reasonable looking 9-3-5 32/24 and they’ve won four of their last five matches at their Stadio Olimpico with wins against Lecce, Sampdoria, Parma and Hellas Verona but they’ll be facing superior opposition this Sunday, and Roma have beaten top six opposition just once (2-1 v Napoli) so far this season.
Inter Milan Preview – Can Inter Milan stay in title race?
With five matches remaining of this Serie A season and with six points separating the current league leaders, Juventus, and Inter Milan, the hosts are still in with a fighting chance of claiming the Serie A title from under The Old Lady’s noses, especially if they take all three points at Roma on Sunday.
A recent hiccup which saw Inter Milan suffer a surprise 2-1 loss at home to Bologna followed by a disappointing 2-2 draw on the road at Hellas Verona had threatened to resign Inter Milan to the runners-up spot in Serie A, but the visitors have bounced back in recent matches by recording back-to-back wins over Torino 3-1 at home and a rousing 4-0 romp away at SPAL to thrust them back into contention for the title.
Obviously, Inter Milan need Juventus to stumble along the way from here to the end of the season which does seem unlikely, but the incentive is still there for Inter to perform here, and as they’re unbeaten in their last three matches on the road which includes wins at Parma and SPAL, they at least stand a chance of picking up a point here if not all three.
