Roma Preview – Can Roma bring an end to a frustrating run of four draws to keep the pressure on the top four?

Although it’s far from a disastrous start for Paulo Fonseca at Roma,  the Portuguese head coach will still be feeling frustrated that his team are not better of than what they currently are. Roma are in sixth spot after eight games and have been defeated only once in all competitions in 2019/20. They have, however, drawn four times and have shared the points in their last four games across domestic and European competition. It’s the two league draws which will have been most disappointing considering they have come at home to Cagliari and away to bottom of the table Sampdoria. Fonseca will be aware that considering how competitive the battle for top four will be this season, his team can ill afford to drop as many points. Roma will see Sunday’s game as a good chance to get their first victory since the end of September.

Milan Preview – It was a disappointing first game in charge for Stefano Pioli – can he get his first win here?

Despite defeating Genoa 2-1 in what turned out to be his final game in charge, Giampaolo Pazzini was sacked as Milan boss just a few months after taking over. The manner of performances, team selection and most of all lack of wins was enough to see owners act and find a replacement. The man entrusted with the task of bringing relative success back to the San Siro is Stefano Pioli. The former Lazio and Fiorentina boss may not be overly popular but he is a pragmatic coach. It was an agonising end to his first game in charge as Lecce scored in the closing stages to steal a point. Pioli now heads to a stadium he knows very well considering he spent two years in charge of Roma’s arch rivals, Roma.

Key-Facts – Roma vs Milan

  • Roma have been somewhat unfortunate in recent weeks but they have not won any of their last four in all competitions and need wins to advance their ambitions
  • Stefano Pioli drew his first game in charge after being appointed coach of Milan and takes charge of his second at a venue he knows really well
  • Roma’s only defeat in their last 20 games was against Atalanta last month when losing 2-0 at home

Roma vs Milan Betting Advice

These are two massive club of Italian football but neither have quite achieved what they are capable of in recent years. That’s quite the understatement in relation to Milan who have just went from one turgid season to another. Roma will be keen to ensure their opponents’ struggles continue for a little longer as they look to put a frustrating run behind them. Belief will still be high, however, as Atalanta are the only team to have beaten them in their last 20 matches.

Milan were certainly better in parts of the game against Lecce but they cannot stop conceding goals. It’s just two clean sheets in their last eight games now, conceding at least two in four of their last five matches. That would well be their downfall in this game, too, against a Roma team who have been more unfortunate than poor. They’re good enough to get all three points on Sunday.
