The top two in Group A meet in the Italian capital on Thursday as Young Boys visit looking to get the result they need to join opponents Roma in the knockout stage.

Roma Preview – Will Roma get the result they need to ensure they win their section?

Roma are in the enviable position of having already qualified for the knockout phase with two games to play. Three wins and a draw from the first four round of games mean they sit on top of Group A with 10 points and just need a point from this match to guarantee themselves top spot and becoming seeded in the draw for the round of 32.

It’s been a dominant showing for Paulo Fonseca’s team in Europe, indicated by a record of nine goals for and just one conceded. That goal came in the away win over Young Boys whilst CSKA Sofia are surprisingly the team to have taken any points off the Italians.

Roma had been on a five match winning run in all competitions up until a humbling 4-0 loss away to Napoli in Serie A on Sunday. Fonseca will be looking for his team to bounce back to form here despite having qualified and with him also likely to make changes.
Fonseca’s team are also hoping to prolong an excellent defensive home record which has seen them keep four straight clean sheets. Considering they had conceded in all nine home matches before that, it’s a significant improvement.

Young Boys Preview – Can Young Boys follow up their back-to-back wins against CSKA Sofia with a big performance here?

Having taken just one points from their first two group matches, Young Boys find themselves in second place following vital wins against CSKA Sofia. Having suffered disappointment following elimination from Champions League qualification earlier in the season, Young Boys are keen to ensure they take advantage of dropping into the Europa League which made that double header with the Bulgarians so important.

Young Boys have performed well in all four games in the group so far with a valuable point gained in Romania against Cluj coming on the back of a good showing in defeat at home to tomorrow’s opponents.

Although this is, on paper, the most difficult game of the group stage for Young Boys they come into it in very good form. Unbeaten since that home loss to Roma, the Swiss champions have won five and drawn two of their last seven and sit top of their domestic league as well.

The 1-0 win in Sofia was Young Boys first away win in the Europa League in their last 13 attempts. It’s not a hugely encouraging record as they travel to Italy but they’ve also drawn seven of those matches and a point would be a good result here.

Roma vs Young Boys Betting Advice

Young Boys took the lead in the first meeting between these two earlier in the group but Roma’s class eventually told with two goals in four second half minutes. Both teams have their own objectives from this game as alluded to above so despite Roma’s qualification assured, there is still plenty to play for in this one.

Key Facts – Roma vs Young Boys Betting Tip

  • Roma guaranteed their place in the round of 32 with a win over Cluj in the previous round of games
  • Six points against CSKA Sofia means Young Boys have moved into second spot ahead of Cluj
  • The Italians were 2-1 winners when the teams met in Switzerland back on match day one

As well as being their first away win in the Europa League for a long time, the 1-0 win against CSKA Sofia was also the first time Young Boys kept a clean sheet away from home in the competition in 10 attempts.

They’ve also scored in nine of those games so both teams to score is an appealing selection for this game tomorrow.
