Ronnie O’Sullivan Preview – O’Sullivan looks determined

After his 13-10 quarter final win over Mark Williams, Ronnie O’Sullivan said that he was “embarrassed” by the way he was playing.

He was basically saying that he was struggling with his long game.

O’Sullivan had been trailing Williams 6-2 overnight, but he came back refreshed to immediately pull things back to 8-8 on Tuesday.

From there he got himself across the finish line and he was in vintage mood there, despite what he said about his game.

There are always questions nowadays about the consistency of O’Sullivan, but he has come through a tricky draw.

He opened in the first round with a thumping 10-1 victory over Thepchaiya Un-Nooh.

Then he was embroiled in a fantastic tussle with Ding Junhui in the second round, O’Sullivan winning 13-10 in a high-quality match.

So five-time World Champion O’Sullivan needed a big fightback against Williams and really showed some grit.

So will O’Sullivan, who hasn’t lifted the title since 2013 at the Crucible win through?

The last time that he was in the Final of the World Championships was six years ago when he was beaten by Selby.

O’Sullivan is the 1/2 match favourite for the semi final* (odds taken 11:58 GMT, Tuesday 11th August).

Mark Selby Preview – Selby coming back to top form?

13/8 underdog for this semi final clash Mark Selby produced some excellent quality in the quarter finals* (odds taken 11:58 GMT, Tuesday 11th August).

He has been struggling with his game for a couple of years now really, since last winning the World title in 2017.

He had a couple of tough scraps on his hand in the opening rounds of this year’s tournament.

He battled to a 10-6 win over Jordan Brown in the first round, before needing a deciding frame to get past Noppon Saengkham who had dumped out Shaun Murphy in the first round.

But there was a great degree of confidence and control in his game against Neil Robertson in the final four.

Selby, really for the first time in a long time had his safety game working brilliantly against Robertson.

He continued to keep his opponent from chances and even though much has been made of Selby not securing a century break in his quarter final match, tactically it was spot on.

Ronnie O’Sullivan vs Mark Selby Betting Advice

Key Facts – Ronnie O’Sullivan vs Mark Selby Betting Tip

  • Ronnie O’Sullivan is a 5-time World Champion
  • Ronnie O’Sullivan has lost both World Championship matches against Selby
  • Mark Selby is a 3-time World Champion

Without question Selby looked rock solid in his quarter final against Neil Robertson, the best we have seen from Selby for a while.

As for O’Sullivan he had to dig deep into his vintage best to beat Mark Williams who had bossed him around in the early stages.

O’Sullivan just gets the nod for us in this one. He was smart enough to mount his fight back with close control among the balls.

Selby may try and bring his defensive safety back into play here if he gets his chance.

But O’Sullivan easily beat Selby earlier this season at the Welsh Open so we will go with him.
