Rosenborg are another side that are chasing down a one-goal deficit in the first round qualifying second legs in the Champions League on Wednesday night when they entertain Icelandic outfit, Valur, at their Lerkendal Stadion in Trondheim.
Last week’s 1-0 defeat in Iceland mean that Rosenborg need to place more emphasis on attack on Wednesday night as they seek to put themselves in the hat for the second qualifying round of this competition, and having lost just once in their last 15 matches in all competitions on home turf, Rosenborg will be confident they can turn things around here.
Rosenborg currently occupy second spot in the Norwegian Eliteserien with just one defeat at home so far this season, while their recent record at home in the Champions League is a solid one as they’ve won seven of their nine ties at this level. Striker Bendtner (4 goals) and midfielder Konradsen (4 goals) look the most likely to notch for the home side.
Valur are just 90 minutes away from causing one of the shock results in these first round qualifiers in the Champions League as they seek to protect a 1-0 lead in Norway on Wednesday night, and having suffered just one defeat in their last ten matches overall, they’ll be reasonably confident they can progress to the next round.
Valur have also won three of their last four away from home with wins at Fjolnir, IBV and Keflavik in the Icelandic Urvalsdeild, but they possess very limited experience at Champions League level, having played just one tie beforehand which ended in a 3-0 aggregate loss to BATE Borisov some ten years ago.
Valur will look to keep things tight, so this could be a low scoring affair, but I’m tipping that Rosenborg win this second leg and keep a clean sheet in the process.
