Ross County are slipping perilously close to the relegation zone making Saturday’s game against Hamilton – two points below them – a crunch encounter and one they will be targeting for three points.

Ross County Preview – Will County ease relegation fears by getting a vital home win?

Promotion to the top-flight, as winners of last season’s Championship, is starting to feel a long time ago for all at Ross County. As we approach the end of the regular season, the Dingwall club are looking very nervously over their shoulders with teams behind them picking up points and County failing to do so on a regular basis. The Staggies earned many plaudits for their performance at home to Rangers on Sunday but ultimately it was another defeat.
That made it four losses in their last seven and six in their last nine matches in the league. The end result is it means County are now only six points ahead of bottom club Hearts having played a game more.

Where things get really interesting is the remaining games between now and the split. Saturday’s home game with Hamilton is the first of three against teams below them in the table. The only three teams below them, actually.
Essentially this is an extension of the post-split fixtures as Ross County will face the other five teams in the bottom half and if they do not get a result on Saturday then all of them are going to be extremely tense affairs. They also have the worst goal difference, any by a considerable difference.

Hamilton Preview – Can Accies continue their impressive recent form to move into ninth place in the table?

It might happen every season but it’s still remarkable when Hamilton manage to go on a run which looks to pull them clear of relegation. Eight points from their last four matches may be this season’s version of the great escape, particularly as one of those matches was the 1-0 win away to Rangers last midweek. Not content with that, the Accies then followed it up with a hard-fought win at home to Kilmarnock. After going down to 10 men.

Unsurprisingly, this is Hamilton’s best run of the season but manager Brian Rice will be hoping there is more to come heading towards the split.

One thing Hamilton have to their advantage over the other teams involved in battling to stay up is that they have a lot of experience. Accies are continually involved at this end of the table and know exactly what it takes to stay up.

That ensures they are able to grind results out and they also love the tag of being underdogs. Rice has created that siege mentality once again in the last few weeks, so much so that they can overtake their opponents in to ninth should they leave the Highlands with all three points.

Ross County vs Hamilton Betting Advice

These teams faced each other on the opening day of the season, a game which County strolled to a 3-0 win. At that point, many feared for Hamilton but you sense that there will be at least one team worse off than them come the end of the campaign.
The most recent game between the sides ended 2-2 thanks to a late equaliser from County

Key Facts – Ross County vs Hamilton Betting Tip

  • County have won only one of their last five league games (2-0 at home to Livingston)
  • Hamilton are now unbeaten in their last four, taking eight points in that run
  • Ross County have had the edge over Hamilton this season, taking four points from the two meetings

What County do have in their advantage as the prepare to face a team in better form is the fact they have not lost to to this opponent at home since 2014. They have won six of the previous eight games in Dingwall and a seventh would be extremely precious.

I’m not one for going against trends, usually, but I find it very difficult to back against Hamilton in this sort of form. The bet I fancy most, however, is for there to be at least three goals in the game. Six of the last seven meetings have went over 2.5 goals and the teams have conceded a combined 110 goals already this season.
