Ross County Preview – Staggies still searching for consistency
It’s been one step forward and one step back for a while for Ross County.
However, the Staggies haven’t lost a home match since Boxing Day and that record at Victoria Park is just about keeping them out of trouble at present.
The Dingwall side were overwhelmed at Motherwell on Wednesday, however, and have had little time to recover.
This season has been a steep learning curve for Chelsea loanee Nathan Baxter but the young goalkeeper has kept three clean sheets so far and will be back between the sticks for the visit of Rangers.
County have already lost twice against the Gers this season, failing to register a goal in either game. But Billy McKay has scored five times in his last five matches and Ross Stewart is back from injury. The pair, however, need more help from their midfield who go missing too often for the Staggies to be comfortable in their league position, just five points above the bottom two at the start of the weekend.
Rangers Preview – Gerrard may be losing patience with star names
Captain James Tavernier and fellow defender Connor Goldson appear to bearing the brunt of Rangers’ fans frustrations.
Defeat to Hearts in last week’s Scottish Cup quarter-final means it is now likely that it will be another trophy-less season at Ibrox.
Rangers’ form since the winter break has been abysmal, despite progress to the last 16 of the Europa League. They’ve lost four times since beating Celtic in the Old Firm derby in December and supporters made their feelings know after Wednesday’s home defeat by struggling Hamilton Academical, a team they had beaten 4-1 in the cup a month earlier.
Manager Steven Gerrard admits he is at a loss to explain the slump which has cost them any chance of catching Celtic in the title race. He was forced to discipline top scorer Alfredo Morelos last week and the return of Jermaine Defoe has been hurried to the former England captain refuses to blame a lack of striking options for the collapse.
Rangers will almost certainly still finish second in the league, however, and Gerrard may use to the remaining matches this season to find out which of his players are up for a battle – that could be bad news for Ross County!
Nikola Katic, Ryan Jack and Ryan Kent could all return to the starting-line-up at the Global Energy Stadium.

Trends – Ross County vs Rangers Betting Tips
- Ross County haven’t lost a home match since Boxing Day
- Rangers haven’t won an away match in the league since December
- Rangers’ last three matches have yielded only one goal
- Rangers have won their last five matches against Ross County
Predictions and Tips
There is a significant lack of confidence among Rangers’ ranks at present and they have little left to play for domestically.
However, Ross County may not have the talent to exploit their visitors’ problems with their strikers often struggling for service. The Light Blues should be able to keep them at relative arm’s length and they will get chances of their own.
A narrow away win looks the call.
