Rotherham United continued their winning momentum in League One with an impressive 1-0 win away at Shrewsbury Town last Saturday, and they now have home advantage this Saturday against mid-table Doncaster Rovers as the hosts aim to make it seven wins on the trot.
Recent wins over Portsmouth, Bradford City, AFC Wimbledon, Scunthorpe United, Oxford United and Shrewsbury Town have lifted Rotherham up into the play-off pack, and with confidence and momentum behind them, I wouldn’t write them off for automatic promotion just yet.
Rotherham’s home form also goes from strength to strength as they’ve won their last four on the trot, and are unbeaten in their last seven as Paul Warne’s boys prepare for the final push amidst an overall and much improved home record of 11-2-4 36/18. Although they lost their leading goalscorer, Kieffer Moore (13 goals) to local rivals, Barnsley, The Millers still have the likes of Ball and Smith up front.
Doncaster Rovers ended an eight game sequence without a win in League One with last Saturday’s resounding 3-0 home win over Forest Green Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium to lift themselves away from immediate danger of the relegation battle below them.
However, one win from their last eight matches overall doesn’t fill me with a lot of confidence that they can get something from Rotherham today, especially as they’ve managed just one away win from their last nine trips, which was a 1-0 win at mid-table Bristol Rovers.
Rovers possess an away record of 4-5-8 17/23 which includes failing to score in 7 of their 17 on their travels to date, and although they should have enough to avoid relegation, they should come up short against Rotherham today.
