Club Brugge have been excellent in the first part of the season and are top despite playing a game less. Can they continue their 100% away record against a Royal Excel Mouscron side who are yet to lose at home?!

Royal Excel Mouscron Preview – Can Mouscron continue unbeaten start at home and take points off the leaders?

Mouscron are not considered one of the bigger teams in Belgian football and they have had a series of relegation scares in the past few years. German Bernd Hollerbach took over the team at the end of last season and he has had a very positive impact in the time he’s been at the club. The defeat to Genk in their last game before the international break was only the second loss of the campaign for Mouscron so far. It means they are one of three clubs who sit on 16 points, out the top six only on goal difference. That area of the league table is so tight that a win on Friday would see them go into third, for the time being at least.

A real key component of Mouscron’s strong start to the season has been their form at home. Five games played and they have won three and drawn two. They have been very strong defensively on their own ground, too, conceding just three goals. Leaders and opponents Brugge are the only team who have conceded less. The pick of their victories is the 2-1 win over Gent who sit in third spot at the moment.

Club Brugge Preview – Will Brugge make it five straight away victories and stretch league at the top going into the weekend?

Club Brugge would have been disappointed to miss out on the Belgian league title last season and the signs from early in this campaign is that they are determined to get in front and stay there. Nine games into the new season and Brugge are still unbeaten with seven wins. Their points tally is enough to see them in first place despite having played a game less than Standard Liege who are currently second. They’ve also qualified for the group stages of the Champions League where they have a massive game next week at home against PSG. Their start in that competition has also been good with two draws to open proceedings, including a 2-2 away to Real Madrid.

There’s no getting away with how frustrated Brugge would have been in their failure to win the title last season. Genk – who triumphed in the end pipping them by two points – are one of only two teams who have taken points off them this term, Eupen being the other. Both of those draws have come at home. On the road the current leaders have been pretty devastating with four straight wins, scoring 12 goals in the process. They will be hopeful of extending that on Friday and stretching their lead at the top.

Key-Facts – Royal Excel Mouscron v Club Brugge

  • Mouscron are yet to lose at home this season, with their last home defeat in the league coming over a year ago
  • Brugge have been the best team in Belgium so far and are top despite having played a game less than their nearest challengers
  • The last eight meetings between these clubs have seen Mouscron win three and Brugge the other five games

Royal Excel Mouscron v Club Brugge Betting Advice

This is a fixture that Mouscron have had some joy in down the years, winning three of the last eight meetings including a rare away success against Brugge in the previous campaign. Incidentally, Brugge won this equivalent fixture last season.
On the early evidence we’ve seen then Brugge look a class above the other teams this season. That was further emphasised with an excellent performance away to Real Madrid in a game they were unlucky to win. Going forward they are a threat to anybody and although Mouscron have been resolute at home so far, this will be their biggest test to date.
Brugge are certainly the most likely winners in this one and I expect them to prevail. Three of their four away wins in the league have come without conceding. Mouscron are not free-scoring at home either so Brugge to win to nil is the selection.
