After suffering a heavy 4-1 mauling at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen at home upon the restart of this Bundesliga season following the lockdown, Werder Bremen have since tightened things up as the visitors claimed a seemingly unlikely 1-0 win away from home at Freiburg which was followed by another clean sheet in a 0-0 draw at home with Borussia Moenchengladbach in last weekend’s stalemate.
Despite these recent promising results though, Werder Bremen still find themselves firmly ensconced in the relegation zone and six points adrift of fourth from bottom club, Mainz, and safety ahead of this weekend’s Bundesliga action.
It should also be noted that Werder Bremen have managed just one win from their last nine matches overall, while gaining just two wins from their last seven matches on their travels. In addition, Schalke recorded a 2-1 win away from home in the previous meeting between these two sides.
