Scotland – Clarke would settle for a point?

Victory in Moldova on Friday, with goals from Nathan Patterson and Che Adams sealing a 2-0 success in Chisinau, confirmed Scotland as runners-up in Group F. It was their fifth consecutive win under manager Steve Clarke who will be demanding his charges finish an outstanding campaign, featuring six wins out of nine (D2 L1), on a high with a positive outcome against this imperious Danish side.

Four of those recent victories seen the Scots record a clean sheet in the process and another at Hampden Park on Monday would see them take at least a point from this final fixture. That is all they need to ensure they are seeded for the play-off semi-finals, but it is going to be no easy task. Scotland’s only defeat thus far – and only qualifier in which they didn’t score – came in the reverse encounter, which they lost 2-0.

Key Stat: Scotland were fortunate to preserve another clean sheet last time. However, Craig Gordon’s penalty save means six of their past seven victories were ‘to nil’, as were four of their last five on home soil.

Denmark – Perfect campaign within reach?

Scotland at Hampden Park is all that stands between Denmark and a perfect qualifying campaign. Kasper Hjulmand’s team have barely put a foot out of place so far, winning all nine contests until this point by an aggregate of 30-1. The first eight of those were achieved without so much as the concession of a single goal, but that was before Friday’s 3-1 victory in Copenhagen against the Faroe Islands.

Kasper Schmeichel’s reaction to conceding for the very first time during this campaign told its own story though, the Leicester ‘keeper incensed with the defending that allowed an innocuous cross into the Denmark box to result in a goal. Those are the standards this team are keeping. Nevertheless, that is now six successive wins – all but one being ‘to nil’ – having won nine of the last ten altogether.

Key Stat: Excluding their results at this summer’s European Championships, Denmark have conceded just one goal across their previous seven away matches (W6) – with Germany, in a 1-1 draw in Innsbruck last June, the last team to score past them.

Scotland Vs Denmark Betting Advice

With enough incentive to keep both sets of players interested, we should be in for a competitive renewal of a fixture which, in recent times at least, has been enjoyed more by the home side on the day. Each of the last four meetings saw the hosts prevail, with two wins apiece. However, just two of the last nine saw both teams score or more than a couple goals, suggesting we could be in for an attritional contest in Glasgow.

Scotland Vs Denmark – Key Facts:

  • All of the last four head-to-heads between the countries were won by the home side that day, with Scotland seeking their third consecutive home win over Denmark.
  • The defences of both sides deserve a lot of the credit for their successful campaigns so far. Meanwhile, just two of the past nine meetings produced three or more goals.
  • Scotland come into the contest on the back of five straight wins, conceding once. Denmark have won each of their last six, having also conceded just the one goal.

Both these sides can attribute a significant portion of the credit for their relative successes so far in this qualifying campaign to resolute defences. Scotland conceding seven in nine and only once across their last five, and Denmark once all campaign having previously registered eight consecutive shutouts. It would be a surprise, then, were this clash to develop into anything other than cagey and respectful.
