The third stage of the African section of the World Cup qualifiers continues on Tuesday night as I take a look at Senegal versus South Africa, take two, this time at the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor in Dakar on Tuesday night with the hosts looking to wrap up Group D in style.
Following their recent 2-0 win away at tonight’s opponents, South Africa, Senegal have already qualified for the next stage, but they’ll no doubt want to retain their unbeaten status in the group when they host South Africa on Tuesday night, possessing an overall solid record of 3-2-0 8/2.
With wins over Cape Verde Islands home and away as well as South Africa, Senegal will be in confident mood here this evening, and they’ll be looking to extend their unbeaten run in World Cup qualifiers to nine matches tonight I daresay. South Africa remain rooted to the bottom of Group D following their 2-0 defeat to Senegal, and they now face the same opponents again on Tuesday night, but this time without their so-called home comforts as they face an uphill task of containing Senegal in their own backyard here.
South Africa have registered just one win in these group stages which was a 3-1 home win over Burkina Faso, but three defeats from their last four matches suggests that this will be a long evening for the visitors who will be desperate not to finish bottom of the pile.
The difference in class and quality was evident in the previous encounter, and I’m expecting more of the same from Senegal here on Tuesday night as they look to continue their momentum.
