Welcome to my World Cup 2018 betting tips, and Group E comes to its conclusion on Wednesday night with Serbia taking on Brazil at the Spartak Stadium with both teams very much still in the mix for qualification into the knock-out phase.
Serbia occupy third spot at the moment behind joint group leaders, Brazil and Switzerland, but only one point separates the Serbs and Brazil prior to this decisive match day three encounter. Let’s take a look at how Serbia have fared to date; Serbia opened their account with a 1-0 win over Costa Rica thanks to a strike from former Manchester City wing-back, Kolarov.
However, in their next match, despite taking an early lead through Fulham striker, Mitrovic, Serbia suffered last minute heartbreak against Switzerland following an equaliser from Xhaka and a last-gasp winner from Shaqiri, and they were left empty handed.
Serbia possess some useful players though, and the defensive midfield pair of Milivojevic and Matic will take some beating, while the likes of winger Tadic and striker Mitrovic have the ability to upset any defence.
Brazil were seemingly heading for a bore draw with minnows, Costa Rica, as they were locked at 0-0 right up until the 90th minute when Brazil suddenly woke up and scored two goals in injury time to give the Brazilians their first win of these World Cup finals.
Brazil had looked short of ideas as to how to open up a stubborn Costa Rica defence, but late goals from Coutinho and Neymar rescued the points for Tite’s side and suddenly the outlook looks a whole lot brighter for them.
Brazil had earlier been held to a 1-1 draw by Switzerland on match day one which had got them off to a characteristically slow start, but perhaps momentum is now building for Tite’s boys ahead of Wednesday’s clash.
I feel that Brazil haven’t hit their straps yet, and although they may well run out winners in the end here, my betting tips suggest it’ll be a lot closer than everyone imagines…
