Welcome to my World Cup 2018 betting tips, with Serbia taking on Switzerland in Group E in Friday night’s serving with Serbia the surprise leaders of the group following their 1-0 win over Costa Rica.
The Serbs certainly took advantage of their perceived ‘softer’ fixture first up in the group against Costa Rica, and with both the favourites, Brazil and Switzerland, both on just 1 point apiece, they know that a draw with the Swiss here this evening would put them in a strong position – a win would see them automatically through to the last 16.
Serbia looked strong going forward against the Costa Ricans, with Matic and Milivojevic providing the screen for the likes of Tadic and Ljajic to make forward runs, while Fulham’s Mitrovic will always be a handful in the box.
At the back, Serbia were well organised with Kolarov, Tosic, Milenkovic and Ivanovic providing a solid base from which to work from, and they’re likely to set up with the 4-2-3-1 formation against Switzerland again today.
Switzerland grabbed what could be a vital point against the Group E favourites, Brazil, in their opening match, and with Brazil now out of the way, the Swiss may well fancy their chances of running Serbia down at the top of the group along with picking up points against Costa Rica.
The Swiss fell behind to a majestic strike from Philippe Coutinho who found the top corner of the goal with an impressive curled shot, but shortly afterwards, they levelled through a header from defender Zuber from a corner by Shaqiri, with Zuber probably not quite believing his luck as he was left free in the six-yard box.
But if Switzerland are to grab all three points in this evening’s clash with Serbia, they’ll need striker Seferovic to take his chances, while Xhaka and Behrami will need to put in a solid shift in midfield with Shaqiri at his creative best.
This looks to be a tight match-up and my betting tips suggest backing Serbia with the handicap here.
