Serbia Preview – Can Serbia bounce back?
Along with Turkey, Serbia were expected to give Russia a decent run for their money in terms of leadership of Group 3 but things didn’t go as expected in Moscow as Serbia were handed a heavy 3-1 defeat by Russia and now find themselves having to play catch-up when they entertain Turkey on Sunday evening.
Serbia would have been hoping for a point in their opening match but instead they will now have to turn up their offensive game with a precious three points on the line here, but they’ll be mindful that the defeat to Russia was their first in six matches overall.
The hosts had previously posted four wins from their five matches beforehand with victories against Luxembourg, Paraguay, Lithuania and Luxembourg, while on home soil, Ljubia Tumbakovic’s side have suffered just one defeat from their previous eight matches in all competitions.
Turkey Preview – Can Turkey turn things around?
Turkey also suffered a disappointing defeat in their Group 3 opener with Hungary but this was even worse as the loss was handed to them on home soil and they now face a tough trip to Belgrade to face a Serbia outfit who have been hard to beat in their own backyard.
The visitors had also been in solid form prior to their round 1 loss in Group 3 as they’d suffered just one defeat in their previous 13 matches in all competitions, and having lost just two of their last 10 matches on their travels, they’ll still feel that they have a chance of walking away from Budapest with something.
On the flip-side, Turkey have managed to pick up just four wins out of their last 13 matches on the road, and with the notable exception of a win at Sweden, victories at Albania, Moldova and Andorra were expected.
