Sevilla Preview – Are Sevilla set to continue good recent run edge ahead of opponents in the table?

Since losing 4-0 to Barcelona at the beginning of October, Sevilla have responded extremely well. Their last four games, across all competitions, have seen them win three and draw. That solitary draw came in their most recent game away to Valencia in midweek. Julen Lopetegui would have been slightly disappointed that it was not all three points considering they conceded in the last 10 minutes but a point away to such an opponent is never a bad result. The Sevilla head coach would have been pleased with his how team came back from shipping four goals, going on to keep three clean sheets. It will also be something of a relief considering how many goals they had allowed – Sevilla concede on average more than a goal per game.

As is usually the case, Sevilla have started this season very well at home. Their five league matches at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan so far in this campaign have seen them win three and draw one. Their only loss came against Real Madrid in a narrow 1-0 defeat. Real Sociedad, Getafe and Levante have all left with nothing whilst Celta Vigo grabbed a point. Stretching back further into last season and beyond, it’s five defeats in their last 29 home games in La Liga. That is as good a record as you will find and one which Lopetegui will hope improves come full time tomorrow.

Atletico Madrid Preview – Will Atleti put their run of draws behind them and get what would be just a second win in six games?

Expectations were high for Atletico Madrid coming into this campaign as a result of their transfer dealings over the summer. They may have lost Antoine Griezmann but there was almost universal agreement that Diego Simeone had a stronger squad courtesy of the players he brought in. As it stands, it remains very much a work in progress with plenty of frustrations along the way. Atleti’s only defeat in La Liga so far was away to Real Sociedad but it’s the number of draws which have prevented them from being closer to the top, if not outright.

Simeone’s men head into this crucial clash with Sevilla having drawn four of their last five games. Tuesday’s 1-1 draw away to Alaves pretty much sums up how their campaign has went so far. Having taken the lead and expected to see the game out, a late equaliser left them ruing more dropped points. Before that, they had looked very impressive when seeing off Athletic Bilbao 2-0 at home. Another big performance is needed as they look to win their first away game since the end of September.

Key-Facts – Sevilla vs Atletico Madrid

  • Atletico have been frustrating for much of the season with as many draws as win – they need another victory to keep pace with leaders Barcelona
  • Six of the last seven meetings between these two teams have seen both teams finding the net

Sevilla vs Atletico Madrid Betting Advice

There is nothing between these two teams in terms of points and this game should be another indication of how closely matched they are. Both meetings last season ended in 1-1 draws and one of the strong trends in the fixture has been both both teams scoring – six of the last seven clashes have featured this. On the evidence we have seen so far, however, it’s unlikely we will see more than a couple of goals tomorrow.

Atletico  have the best defensive record in the league conceding just six goals in their 11 matches and 10 of those matches have featured two or fewer goals – including their last nine. Sevilla have definitely tightened up of late as well and eight of their 11 league games have also went under 2.5 goals. It makes another outcome very likely on Saturday.
