Sevilla Preview – Can a fourth successive stalemate be avoided?

Champions League chasing Sevilla (4 – W14 D11 L6) safely negotiated a potentially tricky week in La Liga without sustaining too much damage in their pursuit of a top-four finish. Currently sat in fourth, the Andalusians would claim a point at home to Barcelona last weekend, drawing 0-0, before producing a spirited effort away to a top-four rival. Twice fighting back from a losing position in earning a 2-2 draw with Villarreal.

The latter result, occurring on Monday, means an extra day worth of recovery over their upcoming opponents. Which could matter, as the fixtures continue to roll in thick and fast. The downside, however, is Sevilla have won only once since returning to action, having now drawn three successive games – with Levante, Barcelona and Villarreal – since a 2-0 victory in the Seville derby over Real Betis.

On the flip side, Julen Lopetegui’s side remain unbeaten in their last eight La Liga contests (W3 D5). A run comprising of far too many draws, though, while on four separate occasions they would concede exactly two goals. It is, however, testament to this team’s battling resolve that only one of these instances resulted in a loss, while there hasn’t been one at their Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan since December (W3 D4).

Real Valladolid Preview – Visitors are unlikely to be blown away?

This season’s La Liga draw specialists were at it again earlier in the week, on this occasion sharing the spoils with Getafe on Tuesday following a 1-1 draw at their Estadio Jose Zorrilla. A decent point and one that keeps Real Valladolid (14th – W7 D13 L11) a safe distance above the relegation places, after Enes Unal’s penalty on the stroke of half-time drew the home side level barely five minutes after falling behind.

That is now five points from four games since the restart (W1 D2 L1), beating Leganes 2-1 on the road first time out before tight affairs with Celta Vigo (0-0 at home) and Atletico Madrid (lost 1-0 away). A reasonably solid effort so far, considering half those fixtures were against sides challenging for the Champions league spots. It should mean they have a fair idea of what awaits them on Friday, facing a Sevilla side in fourth.

Valladolid have failed to score across three previous meetings with Sevilla, losing to nil on each occasion including this season’s home fixture. Sergio Gonzalez’s side are competent on their travels, however, registering more points in said matches (W4 D4 L8) than eleven other sides. And while Barca hit them for five at Camp Nou, neither Real Madrid (1-1), Real Sociedad (lost 1-0) or Atletico Madrid (lost 1-0) were given an easy ride.

Sevilla Vs Real Valladolid Betting Advice

The onus is clearly on Sevilla here after three successive draws. Up next, though, are a team which has drawn more games this season than anyone in La Liga. That team being Valladolid, who don’t tend to concede very many goals (only four more than Sevilla), have lost just once since the restart (W1 D2 L1), and given a good account of themselves away to most of the top sides so far.

Sevilla Vs Valladolid – Key Facts

  • Since the La Liga resumption, Sevilla have played four times and won only once (W1 D3), though are now unbeaten in the league for eight games (W3 D5).
  • Meanwhile, Valladolid have tasted since the restart, but only on one occasion so far (W1 D2 L1), scoring and conceding (3) in equal measure across those fixtures.
  • Sevilla have won each of the previous three La Liga meetings without conceding, however, only one was by a margin greater than one goal.

Recent history could be telling, however, Sevilla winning the previous three head-to-heads without conceding. Valladolid would lose without scoring away to Atletico Madrid, Getafe, Real Sociedad and Villarreal so far this season, so may find it tough going against side which has secured 10 of its 14 league wins without letting in a goal.
