It would have been a long international break for Sheffield United on the back of two losses so they will be determined to get the three points at home to high-flying Stoke.

Sheffield United Preview – Will Sheffield United bounce back following disappointment defeats?

Slavisa Jokanovic is something of a Championship specialist having won promotion from the division with both Watford and Fulham in previous years. He was appointed to do the same with Sheffield United following the club’s relegation last season but he has some work to do if he is going to achieve that at the first time of asking. Sheffield United are in 14th spot – 13 points off Bournemouth who lead the way and six points outside the playoffs.

For a club who have virtually kept their squad from last season it has been a disappointing start but Jokanovic will not be panicking just yet, instead looking at how his team can go on a run between now and the next international break.

That begins with the visit of a team currently in the playoffs. The Blades have those ambitions and a run of five unbeaten had them encouraged they would begin moving up the table only to lose their last two, both of which were on the road.

Keeping clean sheets has been a real issue for Sheffield United. They have kept only one in five home games whilst it’s just three overall in the league so far. That puts further pressure on the attackers and with veteran Billy Sharp top scorer with three goals it suggests that they need to be getting more from others in this squad.

Stoke City Preview – Can Stoke improve on their recent away form to continue their push for promotion?

Michael O’Neill will celebrate two years in charge of Stoke next month and there is no doubt that it’s been a positive appointment. Stoke were going nowhere other than downwards when the former Northern Ireland coach took over and although it’s been a steady improvement they are beginning to reap the rewards.

Finishes of 15th and 14th in the last two seasons are nothing exciting but they allowed the club to consolidate and their current position of fourth and four points off the leaders show they are now in a place where they can challenge for promotion.

Its seven wins in 11 games to start the season for O’Neill’s men who recorded perhaps their biggest victory last time out when defeating West Brom 1-0 at the Bet365 Stadium. Stoke are unbeaten at home so far in the campaign with five wins from six games. It has been less impressive on their travels with only one win in five and just one point from their last three on the road.

Nick Powell finished top scorer for the club last season with 12 in the league and he is already on five for this season despite only playing seven matches.

Sheffield United vs Stoke City Betting Advice

This would appear to be a bigger game for the home team due to the respective positions of both clubs. They also went into the international break on the back of contrasting results. Stoke will want to improve on their away form, however, as their home record would appear unsustainable over the course of a season in this league.

Key Facts – Sheffield United vs Stoke City Betting Tip

  • Sheffield United have kept just one clean sheet in their five league matches at home
  • Stoke have taken just five points from a possible 15 on their travels
  • The hosts have taken seven points from their last three at Bramall Lane

Both teams to score is the selection in this game. It’s been a winner in three of Sheffield United’s five home games and in the same proportion as Stoke’s away games in the league so far.
