SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY v DERBY COUNTY

Saturday 24th November 2018 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Football – England – Championship Betting Tips

The Championship returns this Saturday and another bottom half versus top half clash in the second tier next as 17th placed Sheffield Wednesday play host to 6th placed Derby County as the betting tips continue at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.

It looks like being another frustrating campaign for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship, so long now being the ‘sleeping giants’, they need a turnaround in fortunes sooner rather than later if they’re to at least make a top half finish this season.

Manager Jos Luhukay looks totally bereft of ideas to get his side firing again and this is evident in recent weeks which have seen Sheffield Wednesday end up without a win from their last five matches overall, losing four of these.

Defeats to Middlesbrough, QPR, Birmingham City and Norwich City have left The Owls in a disappointing 17th place and just four points above the relegation zone. Whilst the hosts possess an ordinary home record of  2-4-2  11/14 there’s a glimmer of hope though for a betting angle here – both teams have scored in 7 of their 8 home matches to date.

Derby County still remain in 6th place and the play-off pack despite their heavy 3-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa just before the international break, and no doubt The Rams will be keen to bounce back with all three points against an unconvincing Sheffield Wednesday outfit.

Prior to the loss against Villa, Derby had put together a promising looking six-match unbeaten sequence which included wins against Sheffield United, West Brom and Birmingham City along with draws with Norwich City, QPR and Middlesbrough.

Whilst form at Pride Park has usually been fairly solid, Derby’s results away from home have been less convincing as they’ve recorded just one win from their last five matches on the road which was the 4-1 thumping of West Brom at The Hawthorns within an away record of  3-2-3  11/9.

I’m therefore reluctant to back Derby in any way, shape or form where a result of some kind is concerned but with 6 of their 8 away matches also seeing both teams score, the betting tips indicate both teams to hit the back of the net here.
