It’s been a while, but the Steel derby returns to the Championship on Sunday lunchtime with Sheffield Wednesday holding home advantage at Hillsborough against their city rivals Sheffield United with bragging rights and three points at stake for both teams here.
Sheffield Wednesday come into this local derby in solid form, having put together a seven match unbeaten run which includes wins over Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Brentford, while The Owls also remain unbeaten on home turf so far this season which may well set them up nicely for this afternoon.
The Owls have lost just four matches from their last 20 on home soil in the Championship, and they’ve proven to be a hard unit to break down under manager, Carlos Carvalhal. The hosts possess some key attacking personnel in the shape of Fletcher, Hooper, Rhodes and Forestieri.
Visitors Sheffield United have started out of the blocks quickly in their return to the Championship so far this term as they sit in sixth spot thanks to five wins from their first eight league matches of the new campaign.
Wins over Brentford, Barnsley, Derby County, Sunderland and Bolton Wanderers have given The Blades a great start to their new campaign, and the latter two wins were achieved away from home which will give them confidence for this derby here.
However, it should be noted that Sheffield United’s away wins were recorded against teams that have already shown signs of struggling, and they’ll be facing a tough test against their neighbours here today which will stretch them to their limits I daresay.
