Sheffield Wednesday Preview – Can Owls find what would be just a second win in their last seven league games?

It’s been a real trying couple of years for the Sheffield Wednesday support. Financial problems off the field have seen the club handicap themselves on the field including a points deduction which they were unable to recover from in last year’s Championship, eventually ending with relegation to the third tier of English football. It’s the first time they are playing at this level since 2012 and it’s not one they will want to extend for too long.

Darren Moore has more recent experience of the division having been in charge of Doncaster for a couple of years before taking over at Hillsborough in March. He will be well aware of the challenges it poses.

Wednesday got off to a really strong start taking 10 points from their first four games and kept clean sheets in each of those. They’ve not been able to sustain that, though, and have won only one of their last six in the league. That victory was an impressive one winning 2-1 away to Wigan but last weekend’s defeat at home to Oxford means they sit 12th coming into this one.

With leaders Wigan the only team to have conceded fewer goals at this stage it indicates that Wednesday have to improve at the other end of the park. That said, any win here would put them back in the mix for the playoff spots.

Bolton Preview – Are Wanderers set for a fourth straight win in all competitions to continue their playoff push?

Whilst their opponents dropped into this division Bolton climbed back into League One following promotion last season. It was just one season in the league below and success at the first time of asking for Ian Evatt. The size of the club is such that the objective is now to progress again and attempt to finish in the top six with a view to challenging for back-to-back promotions.

It’s been a really encouraging start with that in mind. Wanderers are seventh coming into this game and could get to within a point of the leaders with a victory. And on current form you wouldn’t put it past them with three straight wins including league successes against Charlton and Shrewsbury.

att’s men are strong on the road as well with three wins and a draw in six matches. Their return of 13 goals in those games makes them the most prolific away attack in League One. Oladapo Afolayan is the main reason for that. The striker is on six goals in the league and four in his last four.

With current league leaders and local rivals Wigan to come to the University of Bolton Stadium next weekend it makes the need for points in this one even greater for Wanderers.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Bolton Betting Advice

Both of these clubs are too big to be playing football in this league but have paid the price for financial responsibilities and looking to make their way back. Bolton do look best placed to do that on the evidence so far but a win for Wednesday would actually put them level on points with their opponents. It’s just that the hosts have been so poor lately.

Whilst there are plenty of clashes between the two clubs this will be the lowest level they have faced each other at.

Key Facts – Sheffield Wednesday vs Bolton Betting Tip

  • Despite a quick start to the season Wednesday find themselves in mid-table coming into this game
  • Bolton are adapting to life in League One well and could go to within a point of the leaders with a win here
  • This will be the first ever meeting between the teams at this level of football

Wednesday are not convincing at all just now whilst Bolton are looking for a fourth straight win and are also scoring plenty of goals. That firepower could lead them to another victory here at attractive odds.
