Sheffield Wednesday Preview – Can Sheffield Wednesday finish on a positive note?

With just the one win from their last six matches overall in the Championship, it’s just as well that Wednesday’s hosts, Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed safety in the second tier prior to this final day of the season as their success in recent times has been limited to a 3-0 win away from home at QPR.

Four defeats from these last six matches though certainly haven’t done The Owls any favours and the pressure may be on Wednesday manager, Gary Monk, to not only trade well during the summer months but to also get his side off to a good start next season.

Recent losses to West Brom, Swansea City, Preston North End and Fulham show that The Owls still have a long way to go if they’re to challenge for the play-offs next term, while results and form at home need to dramatically improve as the hosts have won just one of their last 11 matches at Hillsborough which is a very poor run of results indeed.

Middlesbrough Preview – Can Middlesbrough steer clear of trouble?

The arrival of manager, Neil Warnock, who replaced former Middlesbrough manager, Jonathan Woodgate, has almost paid dividends for the visitors as Boro sit in 19th place and hold a two-point cushion above the bottom three prior to this final day of the season in the Championship.

Warnock arrived on the same day that Woodgate was sacked following a heavy 3-0 defeat at home to Swansea City, and since then, Boro have picked up three wins from Warnock’s first seven matches in charge, all of which have been recorded away from home.

Indeed, being away from home on Wednesday night might just suit Middlesbrough as the visitors have won their last three away matches on the trot with wins at Stoke City, Millwall and Reading and they may just need a point here at Hillsborough to secure their Championship status.

Key Facts – Sheffield Wednesday vs Middlesbrough Tip

  • Sheffield Weds have won just 1 of their last 11 matches at home
  • Middlesbrough have won 4 of their last 5 away matches
  • Middlesbrough have won their last 3 visits on the trot to Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday are just treading water under Garry Monk but Middlesbrough need at least a point here so expect Warnock’s boys to be the hungrier of the two sides here.
