Two EFL Championship promotion hopefuls meet at Hillsborough on Saturday, as Garry Monk’s Sheffield Wednesday welcome Gary Rowett’s Millwall to the Steel City. The Owls have been in poor form of late, losing five of their last six, while the Lions threw away a 2-0 lead to lose at Leeds United last time out. Which way will this fascinating Championship fixture go this weekend?

Sheffield Wednesday Preview – Can the Owls put their shocking run of form to bed?

After going six league games with a defeat, winning four and losing two, Sheffield Wednesday have now won only one of their past six in the Championship. The Owls have been in horrid form over the last month or so, taking just three points from a possible 18 (one win, five losses).

Since back-to-back wins over Brentford and Bristol City in December, Wednesday have lost successive home league matches to Cardiff City, Hull City and Blackburn Rovers. In their last one at Hillsborough, Garry Monk’s men were embarrassed by Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn, crashing to a heavy 5-0 defeat on home soil.

Like a number of other clubs, Sheffield Wednesday are pushing for a top six finish this season. However, after their shocking run of results, the Owls now find themselves down in 11th place, five points away from the play-offs. Can they dust themselves down and get back to winning ways this weekend?

Millwall Preview – Will Millwall leave Sheffield with maximum points?

Millwall were 2-0 up and cruising at Leeds in midweek. However, United came out firing in the second period, going on to win the game 3-2 at Elland Road. That was the Lions’ first league reverse since December 21st.

Millwall have fired themselves up the table since Gary Rowett joined, turning themselves into genuine promotion candidates. The Lions are currently in ninth spot, two points adrift of sixth-placed Bristol City.

Before losing at Elland Road, Millwall had gone five matches unbeaten (winning three, drawing two) and had lost only one of 13 in the Championship. Can the London side put the midweek disappointment behind them and get their promotion push back on track with three points in Sheffield on Saturday?

Sheffield Wednesday vs Millwall Betting Advice

Millwall had won three and drawn three of six away league games before the loss at Leeds. The London side have been very hard to beat under Rowett, with just Leeds, Barnsley and Reading getting the better of Gary’s Lions so far.

Key Facts – Sheffield Wednesday vs Millwall Betting Tip

  • Sheffield Wednesday have lost five of their last six in the Championship
  • Millwall have lost just three league games since their new boss took over in October
  • A Matt Smith goal was enough to give Millwall a 1-0 win when the pair met at The Den back in August

Sheffield Wednesday were flying not so long ago, but their woeful form has seen them slip down the table and away from the top six. The Owls could really do with maximum points from this one, but I’m tipping Millwall to hold Wednesday to a frustrating draw. There’s superb value in bet365’s 5/1 for the 1-1 draw.
