Shrewsbury Town will no doubt be eager to get back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon when they play host to Blackpool, following a string of disappointing results which have seen them relinquish top spot in League One.
Recent defeats to Peterborough United, Bury and Bradford City have threatened to undo all The Shrews’ good work earlier in the season where they put together an excellent 15-match unbeaten run, but it should be noted that two of these three recent losses were incurred away from home.
Shrewsbury still hold a very good home record of 7-1-1 14/4 with their one loss coming last time out to fourth placed Bradford City, but they have a great chance of bouncing back here, particularly with six clean sheets under their belts to date and forward Payne (7 goals) up front.
Visitors, Blackpool, sit in a mid-table position having endured a frustrating campaign so far this season as they can’t seem to put any sort of run together following a promising start to the new campaign back in August.
The Seasiders had earlier put together a seven-match unbeaten run in August and September but have since slumped to record just a further two wins from their subsequent 13 matches which has left them eight points adrift of the play-off pack.
An away record of 2-4-4 11/13 along with just one win from their last six on their travels makes a potential play-off place now a seemingly distant dream, and they’ll need to step up against Shrewsbury today if they’re to stake a claim for a top six finish I fancy.
