Shrewsbury in box seat to progress at Charlton's expense

League One/Two Tips

SHREWSBURY TOWN v CHARLTON ATHLETIC

Football – England – League One Betting Tips

It’s advantage Shrewsbury Town as we head into this League One play-off semi-final second leg on Sunday evening with this evening’s hosts holding a precious one-goal lead following their first leg 1-0 win away at Charlton Athletic.

It was a tense and hard fought first leg at The Valley with few chances for either side, but it was The Shrews who emerged as the favourites now to push onto the play-off final as they look to protect their lead at their Meadows ground, and throughout the regular season, Paul Hurst’s side were a difficult team to break down on home turf.

The Shrews ended with a home record of  14-4-5  32/17 but one of their defeats in the season was a 2-0 loss to this evening’s opponents, Charlton Athletic, so the hosts will be keen to avenge that defeat by avoiding a loss here, which would take them to Wembley.

Charlton Athletic may feel a bit hard done by as they looked to be heading into this second leg on level terms with Shrewsbury Town, but an 80th minute screamer from Shrewsbury’s Nolan is the difference between these two teams.

That defeat in the first leg to Shrewsbury became back-to-back defeats for The Addicks as they’d lost 1-0 away at Rochdale on the final day of the League One season, and their form away from The Valley was fairly inconsistent in the last couple of months as Charlton secured wins at MK Dons, Northampton Town, Shrewsbury Town and Portsmouth, but also suffered defeats at Peterborough United, Blackpool, AFC Wimbledon and Rochdale.

An away record which finished on  9-5-9  27/27 probably won’t give much comfort to Charlton fans as it was their form on home turf which helped propel them into the play-offs, so has Charlton’s chance been and gone?
