Steve Cotterill’s Shrewsbury Town entertain Danny Cowley’s Portsmouth in an EFL League One encounter on Saturday. New Pompey boss Cowley picked up a win in his first game in charge last weekend, but can the play-off chasers secure another victory this Saturday? In our in-depth betting preview, we have the latest betting odds and predictions.

Shrewsbury Town Preview – Will the Shrews extend unbeaten run to five?

Shrewsbury Town still have a little but of work to do in their quest for League One survival. The Shrews find themselves in 17th spot, 12 points clear of the drop zone. In truth, they should do enough to survive comfortably in the end.

Shrewsbury have been in good form of late, unbeaten in four League One games. Since a 2-0 home reverse to Fleetwood Town at the beginning of the month, Steve Cotterill’s side have beaten Rochdale and Burton Albion, and drawn with Charlton Athletic and Hull City.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score – No
4/5

Cotterill’s boys have been tough to beat of late, losing just two League One matchups in almost two months. Portsmouth will provide a stern test for the Shropshire side, but Town will fancy their chances of upsetting Pompey at New Meadow.

Portsmouth Preview – Can Cowley make it two in a row?

Danny Cowley worked wonders during his successful tenure at Lincoln City, and the Portsmouth fans will be hoping that he is the man to take them back to the EFL Championship. Cowley got off to a stunning start last week, as Pompey came from behind to beat Ipswich at Fratton Park.

After a horrid run of results, which cost Kenny Jackett his job, Portsmouth have slipped away from the top two and out of the play-offs. Prior to last weekend’s much-needed victory over the Tractor Boys, the Hampshire outfit had lost four in a row and six of eight in League One.

Portsmouth rekindled their promotion bid with last Saturday’s vital victory, and three points at New Meadow could lift them back into the top six with ten games to play.

Shrewsbury Town vs Portsmouth Betting Advice

Portsmouth have had one or two problems against Shrewsbury in recent times. At New Meadow last term, the Shrews picked up a 1-0 win thanks to a Ryan Giles effort. Also, Town held Pompey to a 0-0 draw at Fratton Park earlier in this campaign. Portsmouth have won just two of the last ten meetings.

Key Facts – Shrewsbury Town vs Portsmouth Betting Tip

  • Shrewsbury are unbeaten in four, winning two and drawing two
  • Portsmouth lost four League One matches in a row before last weekend’s win against Ipswich
  • The Shrews have won six of the last ten meetings between the clubs

Portsmouth and Cowley will be buoyed after last weekend’s comeback win over Ipswich, but Shrewsbury head into this one on the back of a four-game unbeaten run in League One.

This could go either way in Shropshire, but we fancy the pair to play out a draw. The draw and under 2.5 goals is available at 13/5. As we touched on, the reverse match at Fratton Park ended goalless. A repeat 0-0 scoreline here is priced at 7/1.
