Shrewsbury Town continue to go from strength to strength in League One following a 4-0 win at home over Bristol Rovers during the week, and I daresay Shrews manager, Paul Hurst, will be wanting more of the same on Saturday afternoon when they play host to Fleetwood Town.
The midweek win over Bristol Rovers extended Shrewsbury’s unbeaten run in League One to an incredible 14 matches as the home side remain the only team yet to be beaten in the third tier, and they sit top of the league with a two point margin over second placed Wigan Athletic.
Shrewsbury’s great start has put a useful seven point cushion between them and third placed Bradford City, and with an impressive home record of 6-1-0 13/3 under their belts to date, they look well placed for further success today. Forwards Payne (6 goals) and Morris (4 goals) are the hosts’ leading goalscorers.
Fleetwood Town sit in ninth place and have enjoyed a reasonable start to their League One campaign so far as they head into this clash having suffered just one defeat from their last five matches which was a 3-1 loss at home to Charlton Athletic.
Recent wins over Bradford City and Plymouth Argyle, both away from home, should give the Cod Army confidence of getting something from this fixture, as well as recent points against Rochdale and Scunthorpe United in 2-2 and 1-1 draws respectively.
Fleetwood seem to have picked themselves up on their travels after losing two of their first three matches on the road, but they’ve since improved their away record to a more respectable looking 3-1-2 9/9.
But Fleetwood will be facing an in-form and confident Shrews outfit, and I’ll back the hosts to continue their strong run on home turf here today.
