Sion Preview – Can Sion break their drought?
With just two points and one league position separating Thursday’s hosts, Sion, from the relegation play-off spot, the home side will be keen to halt a dismal 10-match sequence without a win in the Swiss Super League when they entertain Luzern at their Stade de Tourbillon.
Sion have suffered six defeats within these last 10 matches with losses against Basel (twice), Thun, Young Boys, Neuchatel Xamax and St Gallen, but it should be noted that four of these six losses were incurred away from home, while results at home have been marginally better in recent times.
The hosts have lost just two of their last six matches on home turf while a 2-1 win over Thun was followed by picking up points in draws with Neuchatel Xamax, Zurich and Servette, all of which ended in 1-1 draws; the goals angle looks the best option here though as all 13 of Sion’s home matches have resulted in both teams scoring.
Luzern Preview – Can Luzern avoid defeat again?
6th placed Luzern occupy a safe mid-table position in the Swiss Super League and although they are just two league positions above their Thursday evening’s hosts, Sion, they possess a significant 11-point cushion ahead of their hosts and have lost just one of their last nine matches overall in the Swiss top flight.
Luzern’s recent form is in stark contrast to that of earlier in the campaign which saw the visitors suffer a six-match losing streak from the end of October through to early December, but they’ve turned things around in impressive fashion by winning six of their subsequent nine matches.
However, there’s still room for improvement away from home as Luzern possess an away record that reads 4-2-7 11/18 so perhaps the away win may be asking too much here, but the visitors should at least hit the back of the net here with the likes of forwards Margiotta (9 goals) and Ndiaye (5 goals) up front.
