Sion Preview – Will Vitesse’s class show as they look to take commanding lead into second leg?

Marco Walker has been in charge of Sion for just under six months but it will likely feel a lot longer for him. Sion eventually finished second bottom which resulted them in contesting the relegation playoff against Thun from the league below. A dramatic couple of games later and Sion saved themselves by winning 6-4 on aggregate. It gives Walker a chance to build something of his own in the top-flight but it’s been another testing start to the new season.

Sion are currently bottom of the Swiss Super League, albeit only after two matches. A 2-1 defeat at home to Servette was followed by a 6-1 thrashing away to Basel. Walker knows his owner is not known for patience so will be looking to get the club’s first points as soon as possible.

Our betting prediction
Both teams to score
(odds taken 2000 GMT, Tuesday 3 August)

It could barely be a tougher game to try and achieve that, though. Sion face the team who have dominated this division in the last four years. It’s also an opponent Sion have not beaten in their last 21 games. Their last victory against them was 2016.

Walker will look to former Young Boys striker Guillaume Hoarau for inspiration. The Frenchman moved to his current club last summer having spent six years in Berne. He scored over a 100 goals during that spell and whilst not in the same form in his advancing years, will be desperate to help Sion get those first points.

Young Boys Preview – Can Dundalk continue their European adventure by causing a huge shock in this match?

David Wagner is the man charged with leading Young Boys to their fifth successive league title and it’s been a solid enough start. The champions got the better of Luzern on the road (4-3) but had to settle for a point against Grasshoppers in a goalless draw. Two very different matches and performances and it’s Wagner’s job to find the consistency that has been present for so long at this club.

The Swiss have progressed to the third round of qualification for this year’s Champions League having seen off Slovan Bratislava. They are level with Cluj heading into the return leg next week which will be at home. It’s a great chance for them to reach the playoff round which would be against either Ferencvaros or Slavia Prague.

Jordan Siebatcheu has hit the ground running this season with three goals in the early part of the campaign including two in the win over Luzern.

Whether it’s Siebatcheu or somebody else scoring there’s no doubt this team are capable of finding the net. They’ve managed at least 75 goals in each of their four title-winning seasons.

Sion vs Young Boys Betting Advice

Young Boys have dominated this fixture in recent years. They are unbeaten in their last 20 matches against Sion, winning all but one of them. The host’s last win against this opponent was back in 2015 and on current form it looks unlikely they will end that unwanted record here.

What might play into Sion’s favour is the fact they play Young Boys in between two huge European games but this team should be used to that by now with their recent dominance.

Key Facts – Sion vs Young Boys Betting Tip

  • Sion survived the relegation playoff last season but find themselves in bottom spot at this early stage
  • Young Boys are unbeaten after two games as they look for a fifth straight league title
  • The visitors have won 19 of their last 20 against Sion (their last win was back in 2015)

There could be goals in this one if previous fixtures are anything to go by. Eight of the last 12 matches have had three or more goals in them and I’m happy to side with that here as well.
