Slovenia Preview – Can the Slovenians strike back with a huge three points?

Slovenia’s 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign started with an exceptional 1-0 home win over Croatia, who were 2018 FIFA World Cup runners-up. Sandi Lovric netted the only goal of the game in Ljubljana to give the Slovenians the best possible start.

However, they were narrowly beaten by Russia on matchday two, with the commanding Artem Dzyuba scoring a brace for the home team. Josip Ilicic quickly pulled one back after Dzyuba’s second, but the Russians held on for the points at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi.

Slovenia then crashed to back-to-back losses in Group H with a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Cyprus in Nicosia. Ioannis Pittas scored just before half time to give the hosts the points. Matjaz Kek’s boys will be desperate to bounce back with a positive result on home soil in midweek, and the hosts are the bookies’ favourites at 13/10.

Slovakia Preview – Can the Slovaks keep up their undefeated start?

Slovakia are the only unbeaten team in the group up until now. Stefan Tarkovic’s troops have made a solid start, picking up five points from a possible nine after one win and two draws.

They dropped two points in game one, drawing 0-0 with the Cypriots at the GSP Stadium in the Cyprus capital. They then drew 2-2 at home with Malta on matchday two, though they did come from two goals down to snatch a point in that one.

Slovakia picked up a priceless victory last time out, beating Russia 2-1 at the Stadion Antona Malatinskeho in Trnava. Robert Mak netted the all-important winner. Can the Falcons build on that superb win and leave Slovenia with maximum points on Wednesday? You can get 21/10 for the away win.

Slovenia vs Slovakia Betting Advice

Slovenia and Slovakia went head-to-head in 2018 World Cup qualifying, with both sides winning the home game 1-0. In October in 2016, Rok Kronaveter netted in a 1-0 win for the Slovenians. Almost a year later, an own goal gave the Slovaks a 1-0 victory on their own patch.

Since the turn of the decade, the pair have locked horns four times, with Slovenia winning three of those.

Key Facts – Slovenia vs Slovakia Betting Tip

  • Slovenia have lost their last two qualifiers
  • Slovakia are unbeaten in Group H
  • This will be the first meeting between the two nations since September 2017

On paper, Slovenia and Slovakia seem pretty evenly matched. However, despite losing their last two, while the Slovaks are unbeaten in the group so far, the Slovenians are the bookies’ favourites.

This could be close on the scoreline, and our money is going on the draw at 9/4. There is also good value in the draw and both teams to score at 4/1.
