Sochi Preview – Can Sochi win four on trot?
Sochi made the most of their prolonged sequence of matches at home in the Russian Premier League heading into the lockdown as the hosts put together a three-match winning streak which included wins against Ural, Orenburg and Krasnodar, and in turn, this also improved Sochi’s home record too.
The hosts now hold a more reasonable looking record of 4-2-6 16/14 but despite their recent flurry of wins, Sochi have been too inconsistent throughout the majority of this Russian top flight campaign and they occupy a place just above the relegation play-off places as a result.
Sochi are not out of the woods yet though as just one point separates them from fourth from bottom club, Orenburg, prior to this tough clash against high-flying Rostov, and their previous meeting against Friday’s visitors, Rostov, ended in a 2-0 defeat away from home.

Friday’s visitors, Rostov, were handed a heavy and disappointing 3-1 defeat at home by Lokomotiv Moscow just before the lockdown was imposed which ended a previous encouraging sequence of four matches without defeat in the Russian Premier League.
Within this improved run of form, Rostov had registered wins against Spartak Moscow 4-1 away from home and a 3-2 home win over CSKA Moscow along with picking up points in draws with Ural and Akhmat Grozny.
Rostov currently occupy 4th place on the Russian top flight ladder but they’re just three points adrift of the top three and possible greater rewards of a potential spot in the Champions League qualifiers, so there’s plenty of incentive for them here; with just two defeats out of their last six matches on the road, they could at least nick a point here.
