The 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin is back on the brink of further Grand Slam success for the 2020 calendar year.

She goes into a huge semi-final clash at the French Open against Petra Kvitova on Thursday.

The young American is the underdog for this one against the former French Open champion.

This should be a tremendous battle between two fierce competitors.

Sofia Kenin Preview – Kenin rediscovers her form

Sofia Kenin never looked like the kind of player that would just take a drop in form lightly.

After making a huge breakthrough by winning the Australian Open title earlier this year, her subsequent form dropped.

At the recent US Open she couldn’t make it further than the fourth round as the second seed at the event.

But she is back in the groove now as she lines up in the final four against Kvitova on Thursday.

Kenin though is the 6/4 underdog in the match outright for this contest* (odds taken 18:29 GMT on Wednesday 7th October).

It hasn’t been the smoothest of rides through the French Open for Kenin, who has never really looked that comfortable on clay.

In all but one of her five matches in this grand slam tournament, Kenin has been taken to three sets.

Twice she had dropped the opening set of a contest in this campaign and that is not something she is likely to get away with against Kvitova.

Our betting prediction:
Kvitova 2-1 set betting
3/1

Kenin will be looking for her first win against Kvitova having lost her two previous encounters with the Czech player.

Given the way that Kenin’s French Open campaign has gone so far, a 3 Total Sets option for tennis betting is at 6/4 odds-against* (odds taken 18:29 GMT on Wednesday 7th October).

In her semifinal match against fellow American Danielle Collins, Kenin was involved in a tight match until powering through the final set 6-0.

She has grit and fight in abundance and it’s good to see her back on top of her game.

But can she defy underdog status on Thursday? We are not sure about that.

Petra Kvitova Preview – Can Kvitova reach her second French Open semi?

Petra Kvitova reached the semi final of the 2012 French Open where she was eliminated. Can she make it through to the final for the first time?

The bookmakers think that she has a decent chance of doing so as she is the 8/15 odds-on favourite in the tennis betting match outright* (odds taken 18:29 GMT on Wednesday 7th October).

Since that final four effort in 2012, she hasn’t been past the fourth round in any of her six following French Open campaigns.

At the 2020 Australian Open, Kivitova made it through to the quarterfinals and was a fourth round loser at the recent US Open.

After the US Open, she skipped the big clay Rome event to go straight into the French Open without a competitive match this year on the surface.

It has been a nice draw for her to be fair, and the match against Kenin will see her face her first seeded opponent.

Kvitova herself is the seventh seed at this year’s French Open.

Petra Kvitova last faced Sofia Kenin in Madrid last year and that was a straight-sets victory for the Czech player over the young American.

The only other meeting happened in Miami in 2018 with Kvitova fighting back to win after having dropped the first set.

A Kvitova 2-0 Set betting option is at 5/4 for this contest but given the spirited nature of Kenin, a Kvitova 2-1 offers longer value at 3/1* (odds taken 18:29 GMT on Wednesday 7th October).

Sofia Kenin vs Petra Kvitova Betting Advice

What a contest this is going to be and we can see it going the distance. The first reason for that is the run that Kenin has had.

She has played a lot of tennis just to get to this stage. The other factor is that Kvitova has yet to really face anything like a stiff challenge.

So we don’t totally know where she is on clay at the moment and this isn’t the greatest of surfaces for either.

Key Facts – Sofia Kenin vs Petra Kvitova Betting Tip

  • Sofia Kenin has lost her two previous matches against Kvitova
  • Sofia Kenin has dropped a set in all but one of her matches at the 2020 French Open
  • Petra Kvitova has not faced a seeded player in this year’s draw until now

We do expect the experience of Kvitova to come good though and we fancy the 2-1 set betting option on her at 3/1* (odds taken 18:29 GMT on Wednesday 7th October).

Kenin will scrap and bounce around the court giving everything she has got and won’t let this get away from her lightly.

We just don’t see her getting that first win against Kvitova however.

But we would consider a Kenin +3.5 handicap at 4/5 to see her stick close* (odds taken 18:29 GMT on Wednesday 7th October).
