As this weekend has seen the return of the action in the Premier League, so too does Monday night football as the final fixture of this round of matches features a south-coast clash between Southampton and Brighton with more betting tips available.
After a poor start to the new season, Southampton ended on a high note with a 2-0 win away at Crystal Palace prior to the international break which was a very welcome three points indeed for Mark Hughes’s side who look to be gearing up again for a tough campaign.
An opening day 0-0 draw at home with Burnley was followed by back-to-back defeats to Everton (away) and Leicester City (at home) before the Saints ended a run of four matches overall without a win at Selhurst Park.
Hughes and Southampton will both be hoping they can secure the hosts’ top flight status before the final few weeks of this season, but with just one home win from their last 13 matches, it could be another close call for tonight’s hosts.
Brighton find themselves level on points with Southampton ahead of their trip along the south coast on Monday night having also started in slow fashion this season. The Seagull’s form at their AMEX Stadium last season proved vital to their Premier League survival, and I daresay Chris Hughton’s men will rely on results at home again this term.
The early signs of the first few weeks of this new top flight season certainly seem to point that way again as Brighton have lost their first two away matches at Watford 2-0 and Liverpool 1-0, while at home, they’ve posted a 3-2 win over a poor Manchester United outfit as well as sharing the points with Fulham in a 2-2 draw.
Last season’s visit to St Mary’s Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw, and my betting tips suggest it could be another low-scoring affair here, perhaps also ending in a draw.
