Southampton come into this crucial clash at the bottom the Premier League table on the back of a useful and vital three match run without defeat which most importantly includes wins against Leicester City and Everton along with an excellent point away at Chelsea.
New manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has brought the good times back at Southampton but they’re certainly not out of the woods yet as they sit just one league position and three points above the relegation zone, but with Cardiff City losing at Arsenal on Tuesday night, the Saints could open up a useful six point cushion ahead of the bottom three with a win here.
Southampton have produced mixed results in recent weeks at home as they’ve registered wins against Arsenal and Everton but these have been offset by defeats to West Ham and Manchester City amidst an overall home record of 2-5-4 13/18.
The hosts have kept just two clean sheets at home so far this season and this could open the door for Crystal Palace here.

Crystal Palace sit just one position above Southampton but are level on points as they make their way down to the south coast on the back of their recent 4th round FA Cup win over Tottenham, as the Eagles prevailed with a 2-0 win to go into the hat for the 5th round of the cup competition.
But it’s back to the serious business of Premier League survival for the visitors who have managed just one win from their last five matches overall in the top flight which was a 2-0 win away at Wolves.
However, recent defeats to Chelsea, Watford and Liverpool have plunged palace back into the relegation battle although they did produce a spirited display at Anfield in their 4-3 loss to Liverpool last time out on their travels.
Palace possess an ordinary looking away record of 4-1-7 17/21 but this does include the two recent wins at high-flying Manchester City and Wolves, so Roy Hodgson’s team are very capable of getting at least a point on the south coast on Wednesday night.
