Southampton head into this crucial encounter on Wednesday night having gone four league matches without a win in the Premier League following draws with Crystal Palace and Burnley, both being 1-1 stalemates, along with recent back-to-back defeats to Cardiff City and Arsenal, losing 2-1 and 2-0 respectively.
The Saints sit third from bottom in the relegation zone but are just one point adrift of Cardiff City and safety as they prepare for this massive game against Fulham. Although the hosts have dropped down into the bottom three recently, Southampton have shown enough under new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl that they have the ability to survive the drop.
Prior to the recent losses to Cardiff and Arsenal, Southampton had put together a five match unbeaten run which included wins over Leicester City and Everton along with taking points off Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Burnley in draws.
Southampton’s home record stands at 2-6-5 15/21 which still obviously requires further attention, but the hosts have lost just three of their last nine matches on home turf which also includes holding Manchester United to a 2-2 draw.

Fulham find themselves second from bottom in the Premier League and some seven points adrift of their hosts, Southampton, ahead of this critical encounter and losing their last three matches on the trot certainly hasn’t helped matters.
Overall, Fulham have lost six of their last seven in the top flight which has plunged them in deep relegation trouble, and unless The Cottagers can string two or three wins on the trot very soon, then the London club will almost certainly be staring relegation firmly in the face.
Defeats to Arsenal, Burnley, Tottenham, Crystal Palace, Manchester United and West Ham have made life extremely difficult for Fulham and manager, Claudio Ranieri, in what has been a disastrous return to the top flight, but even having enjoyed such a great season in the Championship last term, Fulham looked sadly out of their depth from the off this season.
Fulham are still the only team yet to record an away win in the division so far this season with a woeful away record of 0-2-12 9/35 which includes the worst defensive record away form home in the Premiership.
Betting Tips Verdict
This match is very much within Southampton’s grasp and all three points here could see them out of the bottom three, while Fulham will do well to get a point here I fear.
