Southampton Prediction – Can Saints build on Brighton win?
A 2-0 win along the south coast away at Brighton last Saturday would have been a very welcome three points for Southampton and manager, Ralph Hasenhuttl as his side got off the mark with their first win of the new Premier League season.
Southampton had made a disastrous start to the new top flight campaign as they’d suffered back-to-back defeats against Burnley (3-0 away) and a more understandable 2-1 loss at home to Liverpool, and a third defeat on the trot wasn’t something that Saints would have wanted to contemplate.
However, last week’s win over Brighton was helped considerably by Brighton’s forward, Andone, who committed a reckless challenge and was sent off after just 30 minutes of the match had been played – this resulted in the match swinging in Southampton’s favour afterwards.
But with just 1 home win out of their last 5 matches on home turf at their St Mary’s Stadium, all three points in Saturday’s clash with Manchester United is far from guaranteed, especially as Saints have failed to beat United in their last 11 meetings at home.
Manchester United Prediction – Can Manchester United maintain upper hand over Saints?
A resounding 4-0 win over Chelsea on the opening day of the new Premier League season has been the definite highlight for Manchester united so far this season as they’ve since stumbled to a couple of disappointing results afterwards.
The visitors were held to a 1-1 draw away from home at Molineux against Wolves and this point was followed by a frustrating 2-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, where, rather ironically, the winning goal was scored by Crystal Palace from the penalty spot.
It’s ironic because of Manchester United’s recent problems from the penalty spot, but in Saturday’s opponents, Southampton, they’ve had a willing team that have surrendered in previous exchanges and United will be pressing for all three points on the south coast.
It may surprise a few people to know that Manchester United have failed to win any of their last 5 away matches in the Premier League, but this may all change against Southampton who have struggled in the early stages of this season.
