SOUTHAMPTON v MANCHESTER UNITED

Wednesday 17th May 2017 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Football – England – Premier League Betting Tips

This is a nothing game. Southampton are all over the place at the moment, and even though they beat relegated and demoralised Middlesbrough 2-1 away from home last time out, they’d previously gone five matches without a win.

The pressure is on for manager Claude Puel who has seen his side capitulate this season despite sitting in 8th place in the Premier League, they find themselves a massive 27 points adrift of fifth placed Arsenal who currently occupy the Europa League spot.

The Saints were expected to at least make some sort of challenge for a european spot this term, but with a disappointing and inconsistent home record of  6-5-6  17/20 so far this season, they look like they just want this campaign to end. Only relegated Sunderland (16 goals) have scored fewer goals at home than Southampton to date.

Visitors Manchester United and manager Jose Mourinho have put all their eggs in one basket now as this Premier League season draws to a close, and it now appears to be ‘win or bust’ with the Red Devils hell-bent on winning the Europa League final as their only hope of Champions League football next season.

It’s reportedly going to cost Manchester United around 50million pounds if they fail to win the final against Dutch outfit Ajax, so we’re expecting to see a weakened United outfit tonight when they make their way down to the south coast with a mixture of fringe and youth players making up the bulk of the side.

Avoiding injuries to his key players is the name of the game for Mourinho here, and they head into this encounter on the back of four league matches without a win following draws with rivals Manchester City and Swansea City, along with defeats to Arsenal and Tottenham.

Saints manager Claude Puel will be desperate for his side to avoid defeat here, and this looks like being a low scoring and dull affair.
